Hunting & cooking show in Denmark on Sika deer Nak & Æd
      #354905 - 05/07/21 08:08 PM

Danish Hunting and cooking show " Nak & Æd " in Denmark for Sika Deer

An hour long TV programme on hunting and cooking. This episode is in Denmark, looks to be North of Klampenberg North of Copenhagen, and hunting sika deer. First setting up camp, and other stuff then the hunt, finslly butchering, cooking and eating. 58 minutes.

Features Crown price Frederick who shows up three times. Down to Earth guy, joins in, setting up the camp, hunting and cooking and eating.

Reportedly the show has episodes travelling around the world targeting different species, to hunt, cook and eat.

Good to see shows featuring hunting and cooking and eating wild game. A positive way to influence undecided people neither pro nor anti hunting. Might even influence some anti hunters if they like meat, fish or mushrooms!

Warning it does meander and waffle along, especially if you don't understand Danish.

Comments on fb by Leif Brag on a about the series and spisode. Leif, are you here on NE/ If not, why not?!

Quote:

My home country, Denmark, might often seem a bit controversial in the eyes of the UK media.
However their down to earth approach and openness about where our food comes from makes me proud.
We have all heard of forest schools where kids learn from practical experience.
However, not many outside Denmark will know about Nak & Æd (Neck & Eat).
Nak & Æd is a TV series that is now into its 12th season.
The series is about a hunter and a cook travelling around Denmark and the rest of the world in pursuit of specific animals or fish.
They always hunt or fish with a local guide or host, who will be a big part of the programme, as he will explain about the methods being used in the pursuit of the quarry.
If they get the target species then the cook will cook it over an open fire (They are always camping) with the help of the hunter. The host or guide will then be invited for a meal.
Downside is that if they don’t get their target species then they will cook up and serve something you wouldn’t think of eating.
The last programme literally crowned them all as they had been invited by the Danish Crown Prince Frederik to try for a Sika stag.
To see how relaxed the future King was and how he got stuck in with digging holes for some useless poles, the gralloching of the stag and the cooking was amazing.
No wonder the Danish people are classed as the happiest people in the world.
I so wish that Nak & Æd would be subtitled, so that it could be watched around the world. It really is very educational in its own specific way.

I enjoyed watching it ,can not understand any of the dialogue.
The camp was certainly different to what we expect these days , no cheapy chain store camping gear.
Wold like too see other episodes ,but it seems difficult to find .

Yes, you can decide on their dialogue yourself.

I note, I could not get it started again with firefox, but with google chrome it worked.

Watching it again.

And again Crown prince Frederick is so much more a decent chap than that idiot fuddy duddy useless Prince Charles.

It is funny, they seem to get mystically excited by finding a large stone in the forest soil when digging post holes for their useless post pot hanging thingee. If that gets them excited once upon a time I cpuld have shown them huge round bounders in the soil on our small nish block. Much more suitable for a Viking human sacrifcie! :O

Will keep watching again. This time, being forwarmed am enjoying their endless faffing aorund more.

Watched the middle part of the episode this time as well.

Cool, they both have a pipe in the evening. Smoking pipes something not often seen on shows today, Orion from the forums and I had a pipe at our "NE Big Bore Boar Hunt" many years ago. I had a spare he could share. Or he had his own.

I must say, I have used a pipe a few times, but don't get full enjoyment from it. I never or hardly ever seem to get it to light or stay burning properly. Is my tobacco too moist or too dry?! Too tightly packed or not at all?

I like to have a good smoke for an hour or long enough. A pipe seems too short and too much refilling and relighting(?). I will endeavour to perservere however.

***

They go to a lot of effort for their breakfast. Part of being a cooking show with a chef along. Looks like bacon, onions and apples fried and put into camp made bread sticks/curls with butter.

What is that yellow stuff they drink in the evening? Is i beer?

Of course the Scandinavians are always drinking coffee! No sausages grilled on a long extendable fork or stout tree stick in this show however.

***

This time see the Royal Coach as the hunting transport! Ha ha. Drawn by two horses in fancy gear. When one hunts with a Prince.

Traditionally a farm cart was often used to transport hunters. I remember an old hunting encyclopaedia showing a hunting technique of the farm cart travelling on the track with the hunters jumping off quickly behind a bush and the cart continuing on. The deer or game, accustomed to farm carts and horses, watch but are not unduly alarmed. The hunters hidden when alighting, behind bushes or trees, can then approach closer for the shot. Wnderful old stuff.

***

Complicated rifle rest. I think it is too inflexible and probably best t down a shooting lane type situation.

A tripod allows more sideways movement when the game pops out in an unexpected direction.

***

For Blaster lovers, Prince Frederik appears to be carrying a Blaster.

***

Again amazed AFTER shooting the stag, BEFORE checking on it, they stop, sit down and eat cake!

I understand it is cooler there and eat and flies less a problem. But are they doing this to let it bleed out? No idea?

***

As Leif said Frederik gets straight into the gutting/galloching of the stag. A real hunter.

Funny watching the video, he looks amused sometimes by the two guys.

***

I think I need some little flags for my camps.

An Aussie Flag. Of course. Red or Blue Ensign though?

A Nitro Express flag. What design should that be? A topic for a new thread.

And maybe a Society of Gentleman Adventurers Black Flag. A rakish skull with eye patch and crossed rifles, a double rifle and a Farquharson.

***

Good to see when they got back from foraging for mushrooms, that the stag was not still lying on the gorund, but had been hung, skinned, and bagged.

***

The cooking.

One dish looks like liver cubes, mushrooms, carrots and cream. Some greens added to it. Is it a form of cabbage? I don't know. More mushrooms fried and added at the end.

Fried in butter venison cutlets. Flambued with brandy.

Boiled potatoes. Looks like cooked with butter after when served.

Something is cooking in another pan? The venison fillet sliced I think. It maybe with onions and more mushrooms. I am not sure. Looking from the served plate.

The large stone comes in handy as the altar piece to hold the little stag model on.

***

Enjoyed the show more the second viewing. Was ready for all the faffing.

These are great videos. It would be nice if there were English subtitles. I tried to get Google to translate but could not.

My wife and I spent 2+ weeks in Denmark and almost everybody we met spoke English very fluently; in fact, more fluently than some Americans

Its a funny serie. I haven`t seen them all though. I have to be in the mood. I see them as Laurel & Hardy..but its ok.
I believe the serie is made be make hunting and fishing more digestable. Folks here in this country are becomming more metropolized and has moved away from countrylife in general.

The trick to a pipe is in the packing, it needs to go in, in three lots.
Seat the 1st pipe full till it's down to half a bowl, fill back up and push down a little tighter, then over fill the bowl and seat to the top of the bowl.

I used to always smoke a pipe out field, never had anyone bumming a smoke from me when I had a pipe.
And you never had a quick one, you had to get a brew and sit down and kick your feet up with one.

Thanks, will give that method a try. If I have any tobacco it might be a little dry. Have to find someone selling it. probably Alexanders in Melbourne. Chris at Smokelovers is no more. Tunneys is gone along time ago. Smokemart probably sells some commercial ordinary stuff.

We need a pipe thread, if we don't already.

Laurel and Hardy. Funny. Maybe it is an advantage to have to imagine what their endless dribbling is about.

First time I watched. I fast forwarded and then stopped. So much faffing around! Now I enjoy the videos. Would be good to understand what they are saying, more than a few percent of words. Subtitles!

Have to watch some African episodes. And also some North American ones so our North American members can have some interest and comparison.

I did like in the Aussie camp how the guys cleaned it up, removing all the leaf and twig matter etc. The Aussie guide wascslso surprised and impressed. Good idea in a dry climate to resist the spread from a campfire.

Vegans and the vegan movement...

I do not mind what people eat (as long as it is not newborn babies). I know several vegans whom I respect. Unfortunately for them, more annoying and extreme people are spearheading the vegan movement with angry (and often silly) attacks on the other 99% of the population for not being vegan. It annoys the cr*p out of me ... I despise missionaries of all kinds.

A few days ago two vegans attacked a very popular Danish TV show called "Nak & Æd" (Kill & Eat). The show follows a hunter and a cook on different hunts around the world and it always ends with them making a dinner of what they've hunted. It is aired on the national TV Channel and it is now in its 12th season.

The two writers attacking the show in one of the bigger mainstream newspapers in Denmark hide behind their academic titles and "forget" to tell their readers, that they are both vegans, which makes the attack quite dishonest. Furthermore they base their arguments on an assumption that killing animals for food is universally bad and that it is "an active ethical choice" for human beings NOT to be vegan.

I would like to see these two privileged western people explain to a Zimbabwean farmer that his lifestyle is unethical and that he could simply make another choice (that involves vitamin supplements he would never be able to afford from the western biochemical industry).

The vegan movement is actively trying to redefine human nature - including our physiology and nutritional needs. It is stupid.

My reply in the newspaper today is in Danish .... but I am sure you can guess what the gist of it is.

Jæger, kommunikationsansvarlig for Nordisk Safari Klub
