KUIU hunting apparel
      #357940 - 09/11/21 12:53 PM

Anyone familiar with this company?

Somehow I got on their radar and have been receiving those little smartphone ads that pop up wherever you are. Maybe it's all my gun related searches.

Anyway, I finally ordered three pieces of apparel - not serious stuff, but things that can be worn around town casually. Will keep you informed when they arrive. The look is American, not British or Continental. (I personally prefer British, but have some doubts whether it is as hardy as the KUIU stuff).

According to Wikipedia, the company was founded in 2011 and doubled sales every year until they ran up against a scale issue in 2015 and took a $50 million capital infusion from a San Francisco based private equity house.

I have been using Kuiu for about 8 years twice per week. I've got the attack pants, guide vest, chugach rain jacket and pants, peleton 200 jacket, gloves, tiburon shorts.

All the stuff is great. Especially for hunting. I only buy solid colors so i csn wear around town so i don't stand out. They are wind proof and dry quickly. I ndver leave home in the rain without my chugach jacket.

I am very familiar with them as well.. Have worn their "attack" pants for years.. and also only get solid colors.. wear them huning, work, ranch.. everywhere.. very good quality and last .. wear mine weekly as the weather cools.. no issues.

One issue I do have is with their tops -- they seem to be skinnier individuals.. as even a XL is tight on my upper body//chest, arms section.. so I use Sitka for tops.. Like a lot of Sitka gear..

The owner of the company committed suicide a few years back..horrible deal.. he hunted the world.. it appears we all hace ghosts that haunt us, some more than others.. was a very tragic story..

THey stand behind their product..have had exceptional service from them anytime I have contacted them.. they are a very good company IMHO..

Thanks guys for the comments. Good to know this stuff is high quality.

The three things I ordered (all solids) should arrive tomorrow. In the meantime I added a (camo) Chugach rain jacket based on MchughCB’s recommendation. Miraculously they had it in my size at 50% off.

I have some of their thermal tops. Merino wool. Wear great and not made in China like some Kiwi Brands.

I received my clothing yesterday and it looks to be high quality, especially the stitching and attention to detail on zippers and buttons.

https://www.kuiu.com/products/base-camp-sierra-pant-bourbon?variant=40479473860766
https://www.kuiu.com/products/base-camp-pullover-sweater-ash-brown?variant=40340486717598
https://www.kuiu.com/products/patriot-ram-flag-t-shirt-charcoal?variant=40877199098014

The fit is snug so you may want to upsize. The stuff is amazingly light weight.

Sweater and pants are marked 'made in China', which I don't like, but I think they're only sewed in China. The t-shirt is marked 'made in Nicaragua'. A lot of gaming goes on with respect to country of origin for customs duties/VAT purposes, so sometimes the labeling is deceptive.

Anyway - good stuff.

The sizing has been an issue for me as well as I stated in my previous post..Even upsizing they are still tight on arms..I have gone with Sitka for shirts.. I am still using Sitka hunting shirts I bought 12 to 15 years ago. BUT, the quality is certainly there IMHO..

Also NONE of my older gear from them showed China... I no longer buy anything that has China on it.. each to their own, just my little form of FU to China..

I also try to avoid buying anything from China but, as you say, near impossible.

It isn’t that they can’t make good stuff. They will make to spec, whether Walmart or Saks Fifth Ave. it’s all the other issues.

It won’t be long until they overtake the US as the world’s largest economy and possibly largest military power.

In this video, you will see Kuiu Peleton 200 jacket (which I don't think they offer anymore) and a gray chugach rain jacket when it starts the heavy showers.

Really high quality equipment however I could never find any established dealer in France and importing from the US would not make any commercial sense when adding shipping costs, import costs and the like. In addition, some European providers such as Harkila or Fall Raven already provide an almost similar range of equipment, available here at off-the-shelf prices similar to Kiui's ones in the US.
