Very beautiful place! Too bad I am not a school teacher.

Ann

I think the kid is four. I doubt a school teaching qualification is necessary.

That would be a great adventure for a retired teacher.

"...we are looking for a teacher that would be happy to come on a volunteer basis..."

Agreed it would be a good deal for the right person, but "on a volunteer basis"??? From those photos, that doesn't exactly look like a "poor folks" operation. Maybe not pay the teacher a full salary, that would be comparable to what is paid in the first world countries, but maybe pay something.

Maybe I'm just being cynical today.

Bob,

I have been looking for a carpenter to replace the wood siding on my house on a volunteer basis. He could enjoy working in a beautiful canyon setting with a wonderful view. And he could use his work on this project as publicity to get more work in the future.

So far there are no takers.

Please tell me what I am doing wrong.

Part of my volunteering would include keeping the game populations in check.

Bob

They are advertising on their web site, so I guess it is not that easy to fill.

But if it is teaching just one four year old kid, I don't think the hours would be that demanding. Some spending money would of course be an advantage.

Also if you get to live in a resort and not have to pay "observer rates" of hundreds of dollars a day then I guess the added benefits might be a plus. I think a year spent this way might well be an experience to remember for the rest of your life especially when if the person is a real teacher and has to deal with Western schools for the rest of their career.

We always see young persons on internet forums looking to become PHs and how to do it. Most times they want full salaries plus benefits etc etc. I have always thought working for free and hoping for board and lodging is the ONLY way to get a look in and get some experience if you don't already live there. The guy that runs this tourist camp is also PH and recently did an elephant hunt in Zambia (from a report on AR), so who knows. One might get a look in.

If I was fresh from University I would consider something like this, especially if I attended Uni straight from school. Back then you are all "go-go" but later you realise a year or two here and there doing other things does not affect one's career that much, and more importantly enhances one's life experiences.

I don't know if I would want to deal with a four year old kid though. Not really in my mentality.

Nitro,

I agree with you. I guess if they provided room, meals, etc. it wouldn't be so bad. Still, it would have to be somebody that didn't have a mortgage to pay (with their house back home), for example, etc. I guess a young person that didn't have such strings attached to them yet could probably do it.

Getting older is a bitch.... Bills to pay... Responsibilities... When did my life get so complicated?

I would do it in a heartbeat if I were a teacher, but not for any pay at all.
They must think that no one else in the world has bills.

Had I been younger, single and without children, I'd do it for the experiance. I'm pretty sure that some sort of "minimum wage" could be negotiated with the owners in addition to the room/board etc. At least enough to have some spending money. But then, since they are in an isolated area, chances are that you only get to town every few months. So you won't be spending much money there anyway.

And as the owner is a PH, so much the better! The year might evolve into other interesting job possiblities.

I'd would have taken room and board plus "culling" as payment!

Throw in some buff and a few ele and I would have that 4-year old ready for the SATs by the time I left!
