Mauser Trapdoor Butt Plate
      #357065 - 26/09/21 07:59 AM

A friend just got (in a box of parts) one of the metal trapdoor butt plates that were stamped with the MAUSER banner. I don't see that many factory Oberndorf Mausers with that butt plate. He offered it to me. What would one be worth?
Thanks.

$50.00.
Hell, I don't know. sorry - couldn't resist.
Maybe to many beer at this point.
Obviously, I'm not in Australia at this time.
Beer is priced like silver bullion there.
I saw $96.00 per 24. Yikes.
oh- sorry for rambling.
Hope someone has a more accurate idea than I do.

$96.00 per 24?

Damn, Daryl, I had hopes of visiting again. I'll go thirsty at that.

TexasJohn,

I don't think there is an established market for the buttplate you are thinking about. It depends on the need or want. Shouldn't the seller set a price, since he owns it? Then you can counter with what you think it is worth to you.

Good luck,

Curl

I was afraid there was really no point of reference for the real value of this item. He offered it as a gift but I refused as I think it may have more value than he realized. At any price, it is not worth damaging a friendship.

Thanks.

I agree about the pricing with Curly.

The beer pricing was in Canberra. Homer told me pricing was more expensive for about everything there, due to it being the capital and the relative wage structure there.
I was able to buy beer for as little as $35.00 per 12, in other locals. Still pretty pricey. That's what a 24 of Budweiser costs here + tax of course.

I afraid that's what happens when you go to Canberra (nobsville) gents, anywhere else (except Victoria at present) life is a whole lot better! I had to buy a carton the other day, $48 per 24, doesn't help when my lad comes over to see us & pick the granddaughters up, having some dinner & then helping himself to a few before heading off home. Gives me an excuse to have a few ales myself!

That's insane.

I thought beer was a bit pricey at the small local stores where I live, at the southern gateway to Sequoia Nat'l Park, but it's not that bad.

I can go to Visalia (California), about 30 miles 'down the hill', and stock up on Foster's at Winco for $2.00 USD per 25.4 ounce (750 ml) 'oil can'. That's comparable to $24.00 for 24 12 ounce bottles.

Other brands can be had for less than that.

Even the beer in a tourist hotspot like Yuma., Arizona was $15.00US per 24. That's only $18.94 Cdn on today's $$.

Cigarettes are priced like gold bullion. $40 a pack (AUD). That’s nearly thrice the cost in Manhattan.

This pic is from lancaster's post on page 26 of the "Mauser Rifles at Auction" thread.

And glad I don't live in Canberra!
Here in Australia's Northern Territory, fifty bucks will get you 2 dozen bottles or 30 cans all day long.
And I haven't cared what a pack of durries costs for about 3 decades...

Butt plate has gone to a good home. Due to all the estimates of value in beer units, it went to a drinking man......
