Sleeved in 1967( I could tear that gunowners head of).

Instead of sleeving the gun a set of new barrels could have been made, and the rifled barrels keps as obsolete.

I ran a garage in Newton Abbot, Devon England, in the 1970s
600 yards away was Sandford Orleigh, Baker's home, then a school
The estate farmhouse, backing onto the garage, had the remains of his wagon he took to Africa
Now everything is demolished and an estate of expensive houses, all history gone

that seems unbelievable but shows very clear where the empire was in 1967

It was truly a crime to line those barrels, imagine not only the history but the price if that gun was left unmolested.
The guy who did it would be turning in his grave.

As it was H&H that did the molestering, I am sure some of the older gunmakers who were in the shop at that time pulled their hairs and and experienced nightmares. Maybe H&H asked an apprentice as the other gunsmiths would resign before cutting such barrels and such gun with such provinence.

I can understand that, I was tasked with rendering a pristine Lee Enfield into a wall hanger.
Once I had a look at it and realised that it was a mint unissued Mark 1 with bayonet and full ces kit, everything on it matched and even the stock was immaculate.
I said to give it to one of the museums, this thing is a collectors wet dream.

But no too much hassle so just cut it up, I refused and someone else got the job but I couldn't bear to watch it get butchered.
