We had M1 Carbines as our jail-house guard rifles for many years. They were all stamped, "Bulgarian Police" - go figure - HA! We had fun with them up on the jail's range, when I was the firearms Inst. and due to that, I have thousands of empties, once fired, of course.

Always threatened to make up a .17PeeWee on an M1Carb. - never got round to it. Without the gas tube, it would be a straight pull, bolt action, auto return. Pull the bolt back, let it go & it ejects the spent round then chambers the next round. (you'd want to keep the return spring, just because)

There was an article specifically about sporterizing the Garand in one of the 1968 American Rifleman magazines; I'll have to check to see which one.

I like it. I wanted a M1 Carbine back in the early 1980's when we still had freedoms. I think maybe a $100 for one then??? Maybe more. Why did I not buy one!!1 Probably had a family farm workers/teenagers income as well, ie no holiday pay, no overtime, paid by the hour.

I like this Germanic stutzen M1 Carbine. Worth it at the price if the barrel is not shot out.

Here it owuld make a nice close range feral pig rifle in the lignum or swamps.

Evil death dealing mass murderers gun here now and verbotten.

if you take a carbine today and give it such a handmade walnut stock and a scope 1600euro would not be enough

It might not be a Garand. It might be a BM59. The Italians modified the Garand in the late 1950s, rechambered to 7.62x51, redesigned the gas system and made other changes. I think they were selective fire. They were halfway between an M1 and an M14.

My Garand sporter is 100% as-issued. (other then my glass-bedding the stock) I use it for my sport of hunting, so that makes it a sporter.
Last year. 1 shot. 224 yards, facing me. Shot from a sitting position and the bullet hit the top of the buck's heart.

Nice shot placement. Are those a griffon's feet I see?
They do appear quite small, though.

That is pretty darn good shooting szihn!
I know my eyes wouldn't be able to do that feat.
As to your Garand, she looks in superb nick to say the least!
Certainly will be a family heirloom to pass down.
