fully machined integral barrels
      #355134 - 14/07/21 06:43 AM

Hi All,
trying out my 1st post here with photos, hope to get it right.

A few pics of Matrix Gunsmithing's full feature integral barrels. They are now doing the CZ upgrades
that Wayne pioneered and has kindly helped them fget started. I think they plan to offer these barrels as an upgrade as well as standalone.
Happy for questions and feedback. Thanks

They hope to price the barrel comparable to a machined solder on rib with NECG band front base and ring swivel.

Steve505,
That looks very nice. It would be great to have a source of wonderful custom barrels.
Having CNC machinery really makes a huge difference.

Hello Steve. It is good to see someone new doing integral features.
CNC certainly does level the playing field.
A couple of comments.

Since the parts are integral, there is no need for the associated bands with the sling swivel and front site. That being said, if it is a swap for the factory barrel and it fits the factory inletting it is understandable.
It wouldn't be difficult to strike that extra metal off for a restock or a custom build.

It looks like there is extra meat on the rear island and the front sight ramp which is great. Make sure the island is high enough to work with a stock with a higher comb. NECG express sights seem to be the go-to, but by the time you file them in the point of impact has gotten quite a bit lower. Easier to take metal off than to put it on.

Looking forward to seeing this progress.

Cheers,

Tom

G'Day Fella's,

Thanks for sharing Steve505.

I remember seeing Sunny Hill Enterprises, advertising a similar item (in various calibres), in Handloader magazine.
If I remember correctly, they were baseed on Douglas premium barrels.

Given the length of the barrel/job, I imagine it is a major undertaking, even on a CNC machine centre!

Tom, thanks for the feedback. All good points

Bands are an standard order option, so no bands.

The front sight ramp and rear island heights (from the bore centerline) are linked in the CAD and track when the barrel is ordered. Really only want to have the standard options, but depending upon the order, will consider non-standard. See the last line, fh1, we program the depth of the V after filing and the height of the front sight bead, then the front sight ramp and rear island heights change to match this option.

Homer,
In talking with Andy, he did not get any response from that ad, so we decided to put one in Sports Afield in their Classic Hunting Issue of this year. Got quite a bit of calls and emails.
For those that missed that issue, here is the ad:)

Wonder where I can get one for my 600NE? I have a barrel and the makings for s qtr rib, but a nice integral rib barrel would be lovely.

I do have a 2" diameter .458 cal 14" twist Kreiger barrel 27" long for sale which would be suited to this sort of thing. I ordered it to have this done but never got around to having the 458 Lot built.
