Gentlemen,
This is my last article, after the long pandemic stop.
Hoping we'll get free from covid soon, enjoy this rifle, a pearl dedicated to blood trailing.

Doc.

Great article Doc!
Yes the old 8x57 is a classic calibre with plenty of punch.
I've never seen those new "basic" projectiles from Brenneke.
They look like a cross between the TIG's & a conventional soft point projectile, can you tell us a bit more about them please?
They have that stepped edge like the TIG's also, Brenneke's old design really stamps out a clean hole in anything it hits leaving a good blood trail!
Keep up the good work mate
Cheers

That was a very well done article Doc. Thanks. While the rifle is not to my tastes, it would indeed be a very good hunting piece.
Those are super bullets & I most heartedly agree with the bullet weight.

Great article, Doc. You write well laid out constructed articles which create interest, to keep reading.

The Mauser rifle, ah no, I do not care for the M12 or M18 at all and I think L&O is running down the reputation of the Mauser brand name with equivalents of the standard of the Tikka T3.

If I didn't have som many others, I would have a 8x57. In the action it looks longer than than a 8x57mm.

I am also intrigued by the modern RWS projectiles.

Good morning,
First of all, i agree with those who claim for color... i'm also a classic rifle enthusiast. Anyway, the Trail is merely intended for blood trailing, a precise discipline that is seriously regulated in old Europe. Many country oblige trailers to use orange clothes and rifles, being theyr action something different from hunting. Trailers often operate near towns and streets, following different rules. So they MUST be visible. Anyway, my suggestion is: if you have the possibility, try to embrace this short ergonomic rifle... you will understand what i mean. For what concern Basic bullet it's an outstanding ogive: old fashioned design, good ballistic, with shape that perfectly duplicate Tig's one. They have the same ballistic within 100 meters... you could use them with the same zeroing with some accomodation while handloading.
It's a classic cup and core bullet, i expect violent mushrooming but also good penetration due to heavy weight.. we'll see soon..
Doc

I really enjoyed the article Doc. I started my hunting career with a M.98 full dress military 8mm sixty years ago. The 7x57 for the last 40 years has become my pet but, the 8x57 has a special place.
