+1 for the .300 H&H, I have a Pre '64 Model 70 in the calibre and love it.

That B. Laubscher a very nice looking rifle in a great calibre.

I personally do not appreciate those "oh so De Rigueur" bulky high power large objective scopes on a classic rifle, they seem to visually overpower the clean lines of a nicely done rifle.....but then, I'm from the cave man era of rifle scope tribe.

But you just need them if you want to hunt at "dusk and dawn" which is very normal in Europe.

I think it is a nice classic styled rifle in a great classic cartridge and chambering. On this rifle I think the scope is not overly large and useful. One could always have a second scope in a second set of rings with a different scope.

One could take pleasure using this rifle anywhere in the world.

BTW is this an original Holland & Holland made rifle? If so, isn't that price a fraction of having a new one built?

Hi John
the rifle was custom build by Bennie Laubscher, a famous South African gunsmith, who has build some very nice custom rifles, mosthly on mauser actions. I am not a expert on his work, but we see some of his rifles that are up for sale in rare occasions.

Other Notes: Bennie Laubscher began making gun and rifle stocks as a hobby in the late 1980s, turning his attentions to riflemaking in 1995. As his reputation grew not only in his native South Africa but worldwide, so his company grew becoming B. Laubscher & Associates. He was joined by Johan Morkel and Danie Crouse, both gun and rifle makers, and Armin Winkler, an engraver. Today this flourishing company specialise in finest quality bolt-magazine rifles. The cost of a bespoke rifle being in the region of £6,000 with a guaranteed delivery time of one year from the date of the order, if not a little sooner. Please contact B. Laubscher & Associates by email assoc@blaubscher.co.za or by fax 0027 (0)21 8728373.

I manage to find this info online.
