An answer from Mr. McLaughlin to a query I made regarding price:

Hello. The price of the Rigby style sights are $315.00. We just came out with a new sight called the American Hunter. They cost $225.00. Attached is a picture.

Thank you

These look useful. But the question is, do they get in the way during recoil when down, on a heavy recoiling rifle?

I do think a nice bolt shroud/cocking piece peep sight would be an excellent addition on a custom rifle with QD scope mounts.

Rothhammer,

Thank you for sharing. These are vey nice looking sights. It is very nice to know these are available.
The price seems reasonable for the amount of work involved. Are these adjustable for windage?

They appear similar to the bolt peep sights that are on Newton rifles. The Newton peep sights that I have seen are not adjustable for windage though there were windage adjustable sights listed (not sure any produced).

I believe I saw pictures of other bolt guns with bolt peep sights. Were those sights made by Lyman? The last time I saw one for sale (for a Newton) was probably 30 - 40 years ago, in Shotgun News (do you remember that publication?). If I remember correctly, that sight was for sale for $350 which was big money in the 1980s (still is).

These diopters are made in my region in the west of Germany. This is one on my rifle caliber 500 Schüler.

Windage is accomplished through the dovetail in the back of the striker, just as the copied addvertisement notes in the last sentence.

The Rigby type, as Daryl pointed out, were windage adjustable by tapping the sight left or right in its horizontal dovetail.

Lyman made these:

Lyman Model 1A

Lyman Model 36

The Lyman 36 mounts on MS bolt release, swings away as bolt is drawn through split bridge, returns to zero as bolt closes.

Lyman offerings in the 1939 Stoeger catalog

Parker Hale crafted these top shelf items, fully adjustable

Steyr offered these flush mounted numbers as 'cost options' on the Mannlicher Schoenauer

They are a dandy bit of kit - My M1910 Take Down has one. When not in use they fold down with the light push of a thumb.

Special folding peep sight.... $12.00
