Pietta vs Uberti is there a difference?
      #351902 - 31/03/21 10:27 AM

Im looking at a SAA, besides Ruger and Colt the only choices seem to be Pietta and Uberti. I own a few Uberti guns but never had a Pietta. They all "look" pretty much the same in pictures. Occasionally I see the Piettas a few dollars cheaper but usually nothing significant.

Im currently looking at one of the cheaper Piettas as a range toy. I dont expect anything beyond "MOM" (minute of a man at 50 yards; but heck I probably wont ever shoot it past 25 yards.

Any thoughts on Pietta. Ideally Id opt for a Ruger Varquero or Blackhawk but the price difference is pretty significant over the the Ubertis and Piettas. Ill likely only be shooting "Cowboy loads" and never any "magnum" loads. My choice for the Ruger is the transfer bar safety which allows loading 6 cartridges instead of five.

Since you are talking about ctg. guns, I can't help.

I've always had better luck with the Ubertis, but sample size is only a dozen or so spread across production of many years. From what I've seen amongst the CAS shooters, I think maybe the Uberti copies of the 1873 Model P are a bit more common.

Curiously, C&B revolvers of recent production. Uberti has always had a problem with arbor length; Pietta's recent production has seemingly solved that problem. (For myself, I'd still prefer an Uberti, knowing I'll probably have to correct the arbor situation.)

Ive ended up with more Ubertis but Im not sure thats more then they were in front of me when I had cash in my hand. After my first post, I was told Pieta parts were a tiny bit closer to original specs than Uberti(?) Im not sure how much that is important to me or how correct, but the teller has always been a trusted source. He said he had "dropped" Pieta parts into Colts but Uberti parts often needed a little fitting. Again, not having a Colt its not a huge issue for me.
