I own a lot of funny old guns and I am interested in shooting the one above.

Any advice as to loads? Ballistics?

Firstly, Slub the bore to make sure it is the correct diameter.

Is it proofed for:-

Black Powder
Nitro for Black
Nitro Proof

Also, it MAY have a bullet weight stamped on the flats or the barrels

All of the above are important before giving load data.

PM Marrakai. He's got a 577 2 3/4 Double Rifle.

What bullet, 750 or 650? Nitro or Black? I have a Hollis in 750 grain 2 3/4" that I like a lot. Check out the reloading for Double Riflesw and you will find 4-5 loads for cvarious combinations.

Thanks for your prompt response and forgive my late one. The gun is black powder proofed and none of the other things you mentioned are available

The gun in guestion was a Grade C (probably actually made by Webley) which I was negotiating with Champlin for but I didn't buy. THey say appropriate loads would be 190 Gr BP with a 565 bullet. They claim about 1600 fps with the above.

Latest project are 2 percussion Lancasters that we can't seem to hit anything with. Bores mike at 757 and we are playing with molds and loads.

More Later
