$400 RIFLE STRAIGHT OFF THE SHELF HITS A TARGET A MILE AWAY..
As this guy demonstrates with his Ruger American Predator, you don't necessarily need a high end custom rifle to hit a target over a mile away.
Ruger attempted to capitalize on the success of their American line of budget rifles when they first unveiled the Ruger American Predator a few years ago.
That new line of bolt-action rifles have also been a big hit for their outstanding accuracy and YouTube is full of videos where shooters and hunters successfully make shots at really long ranges with a Ruger American Predator rifle.

That worked, thanks. Good stuff. That should have been sub-sonic at about 1,200 to 1,300yards seems to me? Ruger's barrels have improved over the 80's examples I've shot.

I had a good friend in the gun business back then..he told me Ruger had out sourced their barrels and were getting a very low quality barrel at the time.. different story now it seems..
I hear time and again how accurate those cheap little rifles are.. reminds me of the Remington 788 when they come out.. so good and so accurate, Remington discontinued them..hurt the model 700 sales..

You're correct Ripp/Daryl about the barrels A Wisconsin barrel maker I know and have worked with refused point blank to sell barrels to Bill Ruger . As told to me, they wanted an economical barrel

Ahh - the Remington 788. I had one in 1973, a .44 mag that shot sub 1" at 100 yards with factory Norma 240gr. "Carbine Load".

Daryl:
I have a friend who collects Rem 788's. He says its one of the most under rated off the shelf rifles ever made, they all shoot!!!

It was great & I don't remember why I sold it. POh, in retrospect, it was likely to finance my next purchase, the ZKK602 in .358 NMag. The 788's had an extremely fast lock time, IIRC.

I had one as well..and also sold it..which is rare..and don't remember why I sold it..and yes, extremely fast lock time..part of the accuracy picture
