I'm looking at a MS rifle to add to my 8x56,don't want one to get lonely. This rifle has a Hertel & Reuss scope on a rail mount, rail is made onto the bottom of the scope. Should I worry about scope problems? Are new scopes being made with the rail should I need a new one? Just trying to feel my way around this is new to me.

The rail attached to the bottom of the scope for mounting is very common in Europe. You should be able to find lots of such scopes as an option from European scope makers. As opposed to the usual USA scope mount rings type scopes.

Nothing to worry about; MS rifles and scopes with rail fit very well and are extremely reliable as long as you have the adapted claw mount, see the below photo on my MS 1910 stutzen.

Yes shouldn't be any problem finding scopes with rails, unfortunately they are a common European mounting system, horrible as they are for scope height above the bore.
I converted a few of my German friends rail scopes, with nothing more than a hacksaw and file, into American/British ring mount style when spending some time in old West Germany back in the early 80's. After spending every summer (his winter in Germany) living and hunting in NZ he came to appreciate that single triggers, low mounted scopes and plastic stocks were the way to go for our hard bush and alpine environment.

RGB, the rail mount used on the MS rifle you are looking at will have a 70 degree rail which is the system used on the older rail mount scopes. No new scope will have that system. Most use the Zeiss rail or else Swarovski and S&B both use their own. If you want to use a new scope you will need to change the front mount and base plate as they come as a matched set, and the rear foot will need to be changed as well.
If you change the scope but don't want to change the bases you will need to buy a scope from that era that used the 70 degree rail.

Thanks Matt. What are some other scopes that use 70 degree rail? Pecar? I'm good with the H&R as long as it is serviceable.

Basically anything pre 1992 which is when Zeiss was granted the patent for their own rail system.
It is easy to tell if a scope has the 70 degree rail as it is shaped like a traditional external Dovetail and they will normally be in 1" inch or 26mm tubes whereas the more modern systems look very different and are normally only in 30mm tubes.
