Good article, however I thought Bill Jordan's carry gun was a model 28. That might not be correct, trying to remember back in the 70's, but that seems right to me. Bill have BIG hands.
I bought a 28 back then, late 70's, just because I thought Bill had one. IIRC - of course.

They kinda messed up the overall look of the gun. Not as pretty as the old 19. The new frame is a bit homely.

Daryl,

I had to go pull out my copy of No Second Place Winner for you. I thumbed through and could not quickly pick out which gun Bill Jordan liked. I also thought he was partial the Highway Patrolman.

THen I remembered another book I have Roy Jinks THe history of Smith and Wesson found the answer, I suppose.

The Model 19 was introduced in 1955. The first gun was sent to Bill Jordan. He appeared on "You asked For It" TV show and displayed the Model 19, calling it, "the answer to a peace officers dream."

my first handgun was a Model 19, which I still have. I carried it as duty gun until we switched semi auto's.

Thanks for that DD. I was also sure he used a Highway Patrolman, the M28.
I knew he'd tested the M19, but it was small (I thought he said) in his hand.
I never did buy a model 19, however did buy a 29, 29 and of course, my duty gun, a model 10 M&P with
5" bl. Interestingly enough(perhaps) when working as a correctional officer and firearms instructor (BC Corrections Branch)
, we carried (as necessary) either model 10's with 6" bls. or one of 4 Model 1950 4"bl. (.38/44 Outdoorsman) we also had.
That was a gun (one of them) I really liked & shot my first "possible" with in my first training qualification,
in Spring 1979 when I started with the outfit. 4 yrs. later, I was an instructor & used a model 10 - "possibles"
were easy with them (at least the 2 I smoothed up for Don (the other |Inst.) and I. I also polished the bores with crocus cloth
- after that "treatment" then never picked up any lead at all - none, even after 2,000rounds & shot just as well as before the treatment.

G'Day Fella's,

Thanks for sharing Ripp.

Earlier this year (............ or was it 2019?), I bought a new M66, with a 4.25" barrel.
It's the same revolver as this M19 but in stainless steel.
It is a great revolver, and this new one, replaces the original 4" M66, I was Dumb enough to sell, decades ago.
I have a few different sets of K frame, Round Butt grips on hand. But the factory S&W rubber grips that were on this M66, are perfect for my hand size, so they are still on this new one.

Avagreatweekendeh!
