12 Gauge Fixer Tool
      #345163 - 18/09/20 06:00 AM

Guys,

To go along with my previous post about my new H&H Paradox, I’d like to know if anyone is making reproductions of the brass “fixer” tools that came with the early Paradox guns. The tool I am referring to is the brass pliers that crimp a paper shell into the bullet groove. It seams like I remember reading on here that an individual was making replicas of these types of tools.

Any help or alternative suggestions would be great!

Van,
I think you are remembering Mike Rowe, he did such things. Unfortunately he has retired from that endeavor and no one else seems to offer reproductions of the old tools.

Now if you aren’t worried about “period correct” you could have a simple pliers machined out to accomplish this task.

I believe there may be another maker of reproduction tools, John Millard. I has not used him but the name was given to me when I was working up loads for the paradox I owned in the past. You might also check some of the UK sellers of reloading tools.

Now THAT'S a great idea, Mike and easily done. Lots of grinding, but the end result would work just fine and be controlled, gauge wise, by the size of the pliers started with.

RS had good luck putting one end of a wire or small cable in a vice, wrapping it around an assembled shell and pulling it tight with the free hand. Makes an effective fixer. Good luck with the trials. CC

Jon Millar made a great set of tools for my Paradox, The # I have for Jon is 250-442-5616, it's been a few years so I'm not sure he is still doing this.

Last picture is of a roll crimper Jon made that fits in my drill press, works great.

470, that is amazing. John made a few tools/molds for me a few years back and I treasure them. I honestly don't know if he still engages in this art, but I cannot imagine a higher complement to a fine firearm. Very, very nice!!!!

470,

Thanks for posting the pics...those tools look amazing! I called the number you provided, and got an obscure answering machine that I could hardly understand. I went ahead and left a message anyway, fingers crossed Jon is still making these tools!

I have 3 of the brass tool blanks. They need finishing. I was going to make a 20 bore and 12 bore for myself.
And use the extra one as my pattern, sacrificial trial part.

Been thinking about it for years, haven't started yet.
