Question on 1910 Hemburg in 8 mm ??
      #344658 - 28/08/20 06:26 AM

I have found at my local gun shop a 1910 M95 that appears to have an 8mm barrel its in a sporterized military stock. The serial number is marked on both the action and barrel but no caliber or proof marks that I can see altho I have not removed it from the wood. The bolt is missing but I have an extra bolt for the 6.5 and wondered if it will work.
I think I read here that some were re-chambered to other calibers but could not find it using search.
So if any one would care to comment I would be grateful.

bolt will work, headspace is allways questionable

8 mm is another question, more likely its an indonesian made 303 british conversion

if its cheap and you have time it could be the beginning of a wonderful project

A Quote from Smith & Smith "The Book of the Rifle":
"The Dutch used the 7.9x57 R cartridge in Schwarzlose and Lewis machine guns. During WW1 they developed a version of their M95 rifle for this cartridge; this weapon is the 7.92mm M1917 rifle and was apparently made in small quantities."

Upon further examination found, what you posted, it is a 7.9x57R but not sure that a 6.5 bolt would work. but the action is perfect could always be rebarreled.
