If what you are using, Gordon, works for you carry on.

I use NO water based lubes for hunting. They, if wet, or capable of absorbing water will rot your bore.

We use oils as in Neetsfoot Oil, or Track's Mink oil for hunting.

It is hot at Hefley Creek Rendezvous, if you call temps from 90F to 120F as being hot. I do, and yet with our water based lubes for target shooting, we have no trouble with dryness of fouling.

If you were to wait 4 or 5 minutes before loading again, yes - it would be crunchy loading and not conducive to accurate shooting.

We load right away after shooting, then walk to the next target - capping or priming once on the line to shoot.

Easy loading and accurate shooting is the result.

Looked up Udderly Smooth
So, mostly distilled water.
Stearic acid being the second ingredient - about $10/lb online derived from cocnut and palm oil.
Does have lanolin in there too.

Back to my earlier thought,
can a lube be whipped with boiling water to a cream like consistency?
Seems like Udderly uses the stearic acid as an emulsifier.

Just re-read this thread & have a comment about petroleum products.
Some petroleum products, Vaseline, for instance is a petroleum wax, which does mix with BP fouling when used in bullet lubes.
The lube I use with it, is a mixture with beeswax. Since the beeswax is not a lube, ie: does not mix with BP fouling, it is the wax itself that does, to keep fouling soft.

60% beeswax, 40% Vaseline. More Beeswax, less Vas. makes stiffer lube.

Mixed by volume. I have used it on bullets (Lee's R.E.A.L. in a .45)in muzzleloaders as well, firing 10 shots on target, then loading a tight patched ball, saturated with
Track's Mink Oil without problem & putting that into the middle of the bullet group at 50yards. The bullets, driven by 80gr. 3F, shot to the sights of the RB's load with 70gr. 3F, thus the bullet lube was doing a good job.
