Looking for a Kahles mignon scope with Vienna mount

Good evening folks,

I just acquired a 1903 MS with bases of a Vienna mount.
And i'm looking for an original Kahles mignon or zeiss x4 with such mount to put on it.
I precise i'm looking for vintage material!
And living in France.
(And yes i already asked to Joel DORLEAC!!)

There is one on Ebay (US) right now, complete with mounts, at $475.00 USD 'or best offer'.
It's been listed for a while, perhaps seller will negotiate price? Kahles Snapper Ebay




Listing indicates that he only ships to the United States, but If he won't ship to France a member here may be able to assist.

I've assisted with shipment of catalogues and such to Australia. If it's legal and the customs paperwork isn't too annoying I might help you out (expenses paid by you, of course).

You may also consider contacting member and Saxon Forester, Kuduae.
He is closer to you geographically, is very knowledegable of Mannlicher Schoenauers, and may be aware of sources for such parts.

I believe scopes are on a banned list. But have no concrete information on it. Have just seen lots of people selling scopes that say so.

Every now and then I see them come up on egun.de. I picked up a Zeiss that was actually marked "Johann Springer Erben". It's currently being fitted to my M1910...


FWIW, optics are controlled under Department of State guidelines as not for export. Seems your average DoS/Customs guy can't tell the difference between a 80 year old scope and a new, thermal starlight scope. So they just restrict them all.

As Don mentioned it, Egun is always a good source for finding such items (there are currently two Khales Mignon for sale, unfortunately not with Viennese mounts); I would also check regularly auctions from Holt's, Springer, Hermann Historica, Dorotheum and the like. Another option would be to buy a low cost MS mounted with Viennese mounts and a period scope at an auction and transfer mounts and scope to your own rifle; some years ago I purchased such a rifle at Holt's, but as at they time I did not want Viennese mounts they were gifted to an American Forum member. Last, if you are prepared to swallow the cost, you may buy the scope currently for sale on Ebay and have it legally exported from the US by a registered exporter; ITAR doesn't prevent exporting such items providing one is prepared to enrol in burdensome admin and associated paperwork, which an export company would deal with on your behalf.
