Wild Boar hunting
      #342908 - 29/06/20 11:00 AM

Dangerous Game in Afrika and Bear in Canada. They were both up close and very exciting hunts; but I think Wild Boar may be my favorite game to hunt. Mind you I wouldnt turn down another chance at either. Its just that Wild Boar is available to me. Its an inexpensive hunt AND who doesnt like pork when its done.

My first Hog hunt was with a T/C Contender in 44mag. I made a rookie mistake and used Hollow Point ammo (Black Talons may have made great bullets for 2 legged animals but they sucked on the big hog. They expanded too quickly and didnt penetrate deep).

Who'd have thought that Dirty Harry's cannon wouldnt be enough? The Hog took exception to being shot and decided I was in his way. That was my first charge VERY EXCITING. I dropped it at my feet; but the shot was pure instinct and Im not sure who was squealing more. Ever since then Ive been hooked.

I typically hunt from a blind in the evening and sometimes at night with Night Vision; but I really like to go out during the day on a spot/stalk. The thrill of that first charge is a rush I dont want to forget.

My son and I were hunting hogs when he was 11 years old, and he got his first charge. The boar was about 250 lbs, and veered off about 10 feet from us. He, too, has been hooked ever since.

He killed his first hog about 45 minutes after the charge.

Im told the veering off is to align their teeth for a "slashing cut"? Of course it could be that they veer off at the end because they see the size difference between you and them (or some such excuse not to attack). Personally I subscribe to the theory that "I was gonna get you MFer; but I spared you THIS TIME"

Im not sure the THRILL of Boar hunting can be understood by anyone who hasnt been charged while on foot. Everybody "gets" a Lion charge or even a Bear attack; but for those who havent faced it, a Wild Boar is just Porky Pig's country cousin. Screw them! Hahaha
