I like this one but would want better wood.

Now here is a nice engraved Mk 5 TG/floorplate. This one is by the incomparable past mint engraver, Bob Swartley. It is for sale or trade. The photo does not do it justice

You can upgrade but then the wait for the Safari goes from the 6 to 8 mths out to 2 years like the custom shiny rifles.

That Safari is in 375 and is going cheap at Hendershots. The import agent for Wby in Australia has some of the base DGRs in 375 and 458 Lott that are discounted right down.

I suspect Wby over estimated the market for 375 H&H and 458 Lott in their rifles, which would be extremely small compared to the Wby calibres. I imagine from time to places like Weatherby, Winchester and so on bring a calibre/gun combination out on the basis of collectors buying them.

Wby introducing the 338/06 in their Ultra Light would have to be example of that. I would reckon the profile of someone who was prepared to spend more than an avegage rifle costs and in 338/06 would not be a Wby rifle fan, more M70 and M98 fan.

Mike
