I am still thinking of a nice hammergun with Jones underlever in .577express. Sir Samuel Bakers load was 6drams black powder to a 648grain solid.

I have the 1985 Gun Digest with that article, well read ......numerous times. Will have to look at my others as I remember there is an article about bore rifles in a '70's edition. I will post it similarly when I find it.

My W.J. Jeffery .577 3 1/4" ....... 1894 & proofed 3 1/4" & 6 1/2 Dram 650 bullet.
Baker did write that he preferred 6 Drams & 650 for better accuracy.

Lovely express rifle.

Hammerless guns with toplevers seems to be good enough...but boring.

The Double rifle with exposed hammers and the Jones underlever is the most beautiful of all guns !!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing these.

Years ago I owned Jack Lott's 8 BORE Rodda double rifle. It weighed 17 pounds and was chambered for the brass case. I owned a lot of under lever hammer double rifles and this one was the hardest to cock of any of them! I damaged my right thumb working on an antique car and could only cock the rifle using the palm of my hand. I never did get to shoot that rifle, always wished I would have. I loved to shoot an 8 BORE double rifle. A friend of mine owned 14 of them!
