BRNO 600-series scope mount question
      #340037 - 13/04/20 04:38 AM

Folks, I picked up a scope marked 'ZF4/N ausJENA' with some unmarked "power booster" (ala' Litschert). I have no history regarding the scope, mount or much of anything. Another inquiry leads me to believe it is a mount for a BRNO rifle. It seems to match up visually with pictures of a 602 found on the 'net. The 'rails' measure out to about 20mm and the 'recoil lug' appears to be about 10mm wide. First off, does this match up with the rails on the 602 rifle? Secondly, what other rifles (model or make) use this same system? Thirdly, are there mounts available which would fit other rifles?

It's a neat scope, albeit a bit heavy, and I'd love to put it to use.

Pictures (maybe?):

Pictures didn't work. Crap. I thought I could link to a FaceBook image?

I'd say it's more likely to fit a ZKK 601 than a 602 going by your tape measure.

The only other rifles it might fit to my knowledge are the Brno ZG47 and the Brno model 21/22 which all have the same dovetail width and the recoil cut out.
Cheers.

I'd say so as well - but I don't know - one or the other for sure. Rear one is too wide, I think, for SAKO.

These Brno "factory" mounts for the special Zeiss, Jena scopes were made in different lengths for the ZKK 600, 601 and 602 actions. They are usually marked such on the left side (not shown in the photos)

Sorry, I got caught up with trying to get photos to load and didn't provide complete info. There are no markings on the mount unless they reside between the scope and mount.

Also, thanks to all for your input. Now to find a suitable host!

Hi Hoot,

This is a special order zf4x boosted to, perhaps, 8x.
The mount, an original one, seems to me also a special order one, higher than the mounts used with the standard 30mm objetives zf4x and zf6x Jena scopes. That normal mounts differed ONLY in their length: short for the ZKK 601, medium or standard for the ZKK 600, and long for the Magnum lenght action ZKK 602. And so they were marked in the left side. The length of the rail of the scopes was the same one for all.
Anyway, this higher mount works in the same way than the standard ones.

Best!

PH

Thank you! Interesting the power booster is a factory option. I've been meaning to check it against a variable power scope to see if I can approximate the magnification. Higher mounts make sense as the front is probably a 50mm lens.

Would you agree with GG375 that this is for a 601? The outside distance between the clamps scales out to about 4.56" (115mm).

Thanks again!

Hi Hoot,

I can not say for sure the roster is from the Jena factory...probably it is.
About the mount, I am sure IT is for the ZKK 600/ZG47/21-22 Std. M98 Length action. I just checked the outside clamps length in my ZKK 601 .308 W, and is 109 mm.

Good luck!

I'll PM you with the 601 dimensions first off Hoot. Will try and get it done today sometime. If those prove to be inconclusive it will take me a couple of days to get access to the 600 . I really don't think your mount will be for a 602, but we shall see.

Here's a BRNO 602 with a different scope mount. Hope this helps.

The booster was made in Meopta (Czech(Czechoslovak optic factory)). Complete scope with booster was finaly 7x power. I have one or two of them.

Jim, your mounts are about 7/8" longer than mine. So I guess we can rule out the 602. I sure appreciate your input!

gawein, interesting! I did a loose comparison to a variable scope and the magnification certainly does look to be about 7x power. Were the Meopta boosters marked in any way? I see no markings on this one whatsoever. Thanks again!

Hi Hoot,

I am sure your mount length is for a ZKK 600. Good to know the origin of the boosted Zf Jena scope.

Good luck!

With the help of GG375 making a bunch of measurements for me, we have determined this is indeed for the ZKK 600 action.

I sincerely appreciate all of the help that you all have provided in figuring this one out.

Cheers!
