Rigby .303 rising bite double rifle

To respond, with delay, to a promise made to our friend NitroX, here are some bad pictures of a very interesting John Rigby & C° .303 rising bite light double rifle made circa 1908.
I'm sorry, but the quality of the photos doesn't do justice to this superb rifle kept in its original state.
The epitome of elegant efficiency!

Regards to all.

Thanks Dorleac. I have handled one just like this, in Sydney. Lovely little rifles.

Just lovely. I love the shape of the sidelocks.

Wow Mr D that is some lovely piece of kit you have there!

That engraving is exquisite.

Joel, thanks so much! I think I was offering to post them up for you. Later was trying to remember where they were posted and which ones! Thanks so much for sharing on the NE forums. And these photos are fine.

Do you still have it for sale from your gunracks? I am not in the market unfrtunately.

I think a fine .303 makes a great addition to any vintage rifle battery. A double rifle or a single makes such a nice flanged cartridge rifle.

Such a beautiful rifle! Have you had an opportunity to shoot it, and if so, how does is handle and how is its accuracy.

Bonjour Joel

I am wondering where this rifle has been for the last 50 years or so. Was it a sleeper in France, hidden away because of it extra-dangerous Military calibre?

Now that the French authorities have finally done away with that poor piece of legislation it can be used and appreciated properly.

Magnifique, impeccable!

HB, from the Ariege...

Good question as it is chambered in .303 a military cartridge.

If French law has changed to allow ex-mil cartridges, that is good.

The rifle does not look like it has been buried in someone's back garden.

Mr D. Thanks for posting. Now that is an excellent rifle. I wonder what stories it could tell. I like the engraving, it is subtle and not overly ornate. In my opinion it adds to the rifle and does not detract from it.
