Brlley choke tubes
      #338943 - 11/03/20 08:49 AM

I have a rusty Mossberg pump action shotgun, under a farm class C licence. My father stored it a safe in a shed, and let all his guns get terribly rusted ... again. Including the ones I cleaned up for him decades ago. I have his guns now.

I am thinkng of cleaning back the rust, so the shotgun is functional again. Then "painting" it or something.

The long 28 inch barrel has an awful "combi" choke, which you screw to tighten or loosen the choke. I think it shoots awful patterns. Never could hit anything with this gun.

So after cleaning it up, and "painting" it, I am thinking of having the barrel cut back severely and also having a Briley choke installed in it. Haven't decided on a barrel length yet. Either short eg 18 inches or maybe 22/24 inches.

Any comments.

Will see about posting some photos of the rusty thing, but won't be for a week or two.

Briley does good work from everything I’ve heard and seen, I used to have a Dakota SxS that had their thin wall tubes. Have you looked into whether you can just get a new barrel (assuming it’s not a discontinued model)? If you have enough wall thickness in the barrel to go with a standard style tube it opens up the possibilities on the style.

Ceracoating is a good option once you get the rust off, John.
As to Briley comes, I have no personal experience with them, but have heard from a close friend who has an old Auto5 Browning fitted with one for shooting steel shot for geese
He says its perfect.
A local gunsmith installed it.
