Inexpensive and will shoot.. I am betting Savage will sell a LOT of these..
Proof makes a great barrel..lightweight and very accurate.. Savage is known to be an inexpensive and yet very accurate rifle.. make a great all purpose, go anywhere go anything rifle... and cheap enough if something happens, oh well...

G'Day Fella's,
Thanks for sharing Ripp.
Looks to be a Winner, and yes, Savage know how to make rifles shoot, out of the box (generally). The other thing about these rifles, is the injected Polymer stocks, are vertually indestructible. They may not be the prettist thing available but ...... Wood, Fibreglass and Carbon Fibre stocks will break (around the wrist/pistol grip), when you have a fall, etc, in mountain/alpine county, that won't happen with a Polymer stock.

OH, it will be a shooter.. the barrel is huge..and its a PROOF.. and they have great triggers with their accu-trigger design.. will make a great all purpose, not worry about it type of gun...
Amazing how many gun manufacturers are now using PROOF barrels.. Gunwerks, Weatherby, Savage, and more.. amazing that little factory in N Montana is able to keep up....
Your correct.. especially the action, they are not much to look at..but pretty sure the coyote, deer, bear or elk won't care about that as much as what is headed their way out of it..

Will post photos soon.. not sure if I had mentioned but I picked one of these up to see for myself.. put a Leupold VX-5HD on it.. 6.5PRC
Two types of Hornady ammo for it.. break in the barrel.. 1st 3 shots are touching .. and that is cleaning the barrel between shots..
Plan to do a bit more shooting as soon as the weather gets a little less windy..snowing here today..
Elk season T-8 days..

Damn Savage, I will probably have to make room for one. It was always hard to not by one but always had the standard calibres I wanted, maybe the 280 or 6.5PRC

IMHO, its a hell of a deal..blueprinted action, Proof barrel, good trigger for $1295.
Great truck gun...
Heck the barrel alone is $800 if you buy it separately ..mine has a camo stock..
Also offered in 280AI---

That's how My Browning A-3 shot with Winchester 180gr. bonded and R-P 180gr. Corelocts factories. 1st handloads shot the same, so I sold it, no fun there working up loads. (that and the bolt would sometimes come out when ejecting a round)

I am more lazy Daryl..IF I get a rifle that will shoot factory ammo like that I keep them.. time is a precious commodity anymore.. rather be in the field than in the basement loading.. BUT, that's just me..

Sigh. Okay, I won't try to dispute that it's probably an excellent performer. Science marches on, yadda, yadda... But why does high-tech have to mean butt ugly, "'75 Corvette with Rosy O'Donnell behind the wheel in a tank-top and army boots" butt ugly? Just because it's got to have a cutting-edge polymer stock, why can't it be nicely styled, instead of trying to look like Darth Vader's toilet bowl brush? Helically-fluted bolts are the firearms' equivalent to Hollywood pipes, and will somebody please, please explain to me the functionality of the current fad, square trigger guards on rifles? They belong on assault rifles and machine guns. I wish once, just once, when one of these kids designs yet another gee-whiz, super-duper new and improved rifle, he would show some respect for the history that got him here and try to design it to be something someone would be proud to carry to the range or in the field, without looking like he belongs in one of those iditotic Huskemaw "tactical hunter" commercials.

I am glad someone else had similar thoughts to me. My were "Ugly". On relooking at it, "So Ugly I would leave it lie on the ground, even if it was fully loaded, in a Zombie epidemic and all I had otherwise was a sharp twig."
Do they purposefully make them look so ugly?
But it is a Savage after all. After all who needs a club to whack people on the head with, when one has a Savage rifle!

Butt ugly looks of the stock. There are several rifles that have butt ugly stocks, the Aussie Lithgow's, Styer Pro Hunter but guess what? They work and they shape works better than the -what I consider - sweet looking stock shapes. Their shape and dimensions don't work well with pen sights unless you have tall sights but they put the eye where it needs to be with scopes that have a 40mm or greater objective lens, hell they even work with 32mm objective lens's. The shape and dimensions are, I agree, butt ugly, but very functional.
Polymer stocks, not a problem as they are functional but I do like a well shaped and dimensioned wooden stock with good grain-not fancy - and colour.... sweeeet.

Exactly.. would be impossible for me to care any less how it looks while I am out hunting. Apparently I am not alone, look at all the people out hunting with mausers..
They work incredibly well for what I am doing.. and shoot even better.. so, go ahead, laugh all you want.. meanwhile I'll be enjoying a nice glass of wine with my elk steak..
