Double barrel birding photos
      #336160 - 05/01/20 12:57 PM

I haven't been on this site in a long time but thought I would post a few photos of this year's birding to date. It's not quite over yet, although I can hear the fat lady humming off in the distance.

We started in September with early teal.

It is about to end now with pheasants in Iowa and maybe Nebraska if we get a chance to stretch it out a bit more.

Anyone else with any photos to add?

Brent thanks for putting these photos up.
Your dog looks like he's loving the time in the field with you!

Nice looking gun.
Let's see more of it - what exactly is it?

Cheers

Tinker, I kind of wish you hadn't asked that exactly.

It is a Greener Fascile Princeps 40 guinea gun. Made in 1903.

but after Thursday, this is where it's at right now...

So, there is some work to do.

But let's see some more photos of cheerier things.

Is that damage from shipping?

Or is that a bad break from a previous repair?

Looks like some fine days out with the dogs. I wish we had birding opportunities in the area where I live. I have to be content with rifle shooting!

Thanks for posting.

tinker, that is from a fall on Thursday. The gun had a previous break that had been repaired twice (once by myself). You can see it on the left side panel.

bouldersmith, that is a mighty lovely gun, and some fine dogs (3?) too!

Gus is resting today. Tomorrow or Tuesday, likely to be another attempt.

Bloody awful accident, Brent, but great pictures.
Boldersmith, very nice indeed. Beautiful Brittanies (I assume Brits due to the longer legs).

Brent everything there is repairable.
Do you think you'll go forward with it?

We hope Brent that you get the old girl singing again.
It would be a shame to see such a wonderful old piece be consigned to the scrap heap.
True it might cost a fair bit to do so, but there are a lot of memories locked up with these old hunters....worth every penny!

The gun will shoot again. Just how to get there from here. The wood is the puzzle. I really want to save it. A man named Sayers carved it in 1903 and I don't want to be the guy that takes it out of circulation. Tomorrow I will make some progress.

I left the birds alone today and took it to the squirrels. 5 for the freezer, they eat better than pheasants anyway, although Gus is not sure he is going to forgive for leaving him home.

So, who else besides bouldersmith have doubles? Let's see some.

Brent

Well, there ya go, Steve. Springers or Brittanies, no matter, beautiful dogs.
My last dog was an English Springer, liver and white.
