W.J. JEFFERY & Co Mannlicher built on a Steyr Model 1892 receiver. Caliber 6.5x53R (.256 Mannlicher) Barrel Marked "SIGHTED AND SHOT BY) W.J. JEFFERY & Co. 60 QUEEN VICTORIA STREET. LONDON" Horn forend and grip cap. Steel buttplate with trap. 24" barrel.

Classic English Victorian-era Stalking Rifle built on a Steyr Mannlicher model 1892 receiver. Slim 26" barrel chambered for the .256 Mannlicher (6.5x53R, the rimmed version of the 6.5x54 Mannlicher–Schönauer). Barrel marked: "SHOT & REGULATED BY ARMY & NAVY. C. S. L. LONDON." Platinum lined English express rear sight with one standing and two folding leaves. Rare Cole's Patent Foresight Protector, fold-down hood locks in place, Classic straight grip English Walnut stock. Stock has been cut shorter and then reattached (common on English rifles and shotguns of this vintage.) Original finish. Buffalo horn forend cap. Wood "buttplate" is carved from stock. Blue is approx. 90%. Wood finish appears original. Checkering is in good condition. Various Victorian English proofmarks. Overall very good condition. Bore is good.

Note: The Army and Navy Co-Operative Society Ltd was formed in London in 1871 by British Military officers to supply goods to members. By 1873, the store had a gun department. Membership was restricted to officers, their families and civil service officials. The Society had depots at major army bases and naval ports, and a large annual illustrated catalogue.
