Don't normally hunt whitetail deer since I moved to Montana 30+ years ago.. have been more interested in Elk, Pronghorn and Mule deer as all we had to hunt for big game was whitetail back in N Dakota..
Got invited to a ranch to hunt out of a blind this past weekend.. had a great time.. great group of guys, crazy stories and lots of laughs...
Took my 28 Nosler along as I have not taken anything with it since I had it built last year.. used Hornady 162gr ELD-X bullets..
Over looking river bottom out of one of the blinds on Friday night..

Later in the morning I noticed movement to my right.. saw a doe and fawn trotting by below me.. behind with this guy with his tongue hanging out.. I glassed him and saw he had 5 on one side --grabbed my rifle, got him in the scope and pulled the trigger..Bullet hit him as he was quartering away in the ribs..angled forward and exited on the opposite side shoulder.. when I gutted him out the top part of his heart was blown off by the bullet.. the ELD-X made about a silver dollar size hole exiting.. have to admit I was concerned with the velocity the 28Nolser produces if the ELD-X would hold up as the shot was close 143 yards....but the bullet did its job... so, I feel it will hold up on elk as well...plan to find out anyway..

Nice photos!
Sounds like you had a good time in the field. Good for you and good for your freezer.
Thanks for the note on the ELDX bullet too.

Yeah - nice TRUE 4 point (5 with brow tine) a 'trophy' deer, no matter the measurements. Thick neck on that puppy.
