fraser single shot
      #32689 - 06/06/05 09:41 AM

I found a Fraser under lever
falling block in 22 k hornet.
It appears well made. The wood
fit was a bit off. The half
octogan half round barrel is
unique. No sights ; but a very
interesting scope mount. Does
any one know about this rifle?
He was asking $550 (US).

There was a FRASER single shot made in Italy and sold in the U.S. in the 80's in .22 L.R. and .22 Hornet. Completed rifles had ITALY stamped under the forearm.
It was a poor design and Cape Outfitters ended up selling the parts/kits (and sued RIFLE magazine over articles critical of the gun.
I do not have a scanner but can send you a photograph of the article if you think the gun is a FRASER rather than a FARSER. Dave

I miss spelled the name it is
Danl. Fraser from Scotland.
The rifles were imported for
a while to a ranch about 100
miles from here. More to follow
I hope. I think a 218 Bee reamer
could "BEE" an option. When you
say under the forearm do you mean
on the barrel or on the backside
of the fore iron.

Fraser Highlander
The rifles were made in Italy and so stamped on the barrel covered by the forearm.
Quote from article by Frank de Haas
"Dan'l Fraser & Co. Black Isle Scotland is stamped on the barrel. I have no idea why."
de Haas goes on to say they were totally unlike any original Fraser he had ever seen and were not made in Scotland.

davem3 is being kind in his description of de Haas's article. It was actually rather critical of the action. I first came across this action in an article in the Single Shot Exchange. It's a bit frightening, actually. The action cocks on closing by literally letting the hammer slip off the cocking bolt and snap onto the trigger sear. I've uploaded a copy of the action's drawing. The first thought I had was "what if the cocking bolt ever sticks?" Then the striker would be dropped into the safety notch, likely damaging the sear tip and making the action unsafe. The rebounding hammer doesn't look to be all that well done either, there being no safety nut to keep it in adjustment. I was glad to later find de Haas found the action a poor choice. I think you have better things to spend your $550 on.

I ran across another inquiry in this same forum.
Check "Mini-Farquharson Rimfire" on 11/02/04.
Not a good action it appears. Dave

Thank you. It sounds as if
you saved me a few dollars.
