One of the nicest No.1's I've seen.
The round grip absolutely makes it stand out from the crowd, along with the superb workmanship of course.
Same for the Martini, stunning.

Thanks again to everyone for the positive comments. I've only built a handful of guns so there is not much more to show. My first gunmaking was a couple of rifles in the late 70's and then after a 35 year hiatus I bought a Persian Mauser action and built a 9.3x62. I haven't photographed it but I tried too many things in the same rifle so was not totally happy with the outcome. Next was the No. 1 followed by the Satterlee actioned .404 in these photos. This rifle was sold this spring as it was not one my son wanted.

Denis, superb rifles showing great craftsmanship and taste. The Ruger No.1 in particular is exceptionally nice with lovely colours and tasteful engraving. You have done some really good work, especially that 404, and both in great cartridges.

Not one your son wanted, WTF!!!!!!!! Obviously he is your son no longer.

I am used to hard work and long hours so I am happy to be your son.

Shame about the protruding safety on those Rugers though, some report cartridge hangups as case rims catch the front of the safety slide during ejection. Considering most shotguns get it right with their slide safeties/barrel selectors (nice and flush with the top strap) you would think Ruger could have.

Beautiful work on that No 1 but the safety slide gap to the top strap grates on the eye to me. A nice touch would be to recess the safety into the top strap as some customs do?

I’ve read that the No.1 safety was designed to stop the ejecting cartridge from falling clear of the gun.
Sounds like rationalization of a poor design to me but maybe nice shooting from the bench but a downright obstacle when chambered for the large cartridges like the 400.
