Wanted. .400 H&H dies.

G’day all.

Looking for a set of .400 H&H dies. New or used.

Cannot find a set here in Australia. Not for love or money.
I am getting a FL die made, but I’m hoping that someone may have a set (or even just a FL die) or know where to point me.

There was a gent on gunbroker that had Redding sets (about 10 sets of) but he wouldn’t send international and how his listing is gone.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have been looking at building a .400 H&H and I am pretty sure that you can get dies from CH see: Caliber List: CH4D and Huntingtons will probably also provide them Huntington Die Specialties

I have bought products from both companies, in the past, and they will ship to Australia.

Was going to say you could probably get away with .416 Rem dies, however the .400 H&H uses a .411" bullet, so the Rem. FL sizer would likely not size the neck small enough.

I’ve tried CH. They tell me that they haven’t got any on hand and are 24 months behind.

I have used a 450/400 FL to neck size some brass and the 450/400 seater die.

Try Simplex Australia HS
Their die list is actually more than what is displayed - yes they even make 577/450Martin Henry as well & they are very well made indeed, I know I have a set!
So give them a bell mate - more than worth a try

A shame we have silly export laws, I have both finish and resize reamers for 400 H&H and have made a set of dies for my rifle.

Lots of difference in the 400 H&H and the 416 rem case.

Left, 416 Rem. Center, 400 H&H. Right, 404 Jeffery.

400 H&H dies and reamers.

Die on the right is for swaging 416 bullets down to .411.
The size die has interchangeable neck size bushings, handy if you are forming brass from other cases that may have neck wall thickness variations.

If anyone in the states wants to build a 400 H&H, I have a barreled action on a M98 with a cut rifled Krieger barrel. Action needs magazine and feed work and a bolt handle, it has never been altered. I will even include a nice Claro Walnut stock blank, big enough for cast off and drop required for iron sights.

And the reamers are for sale also, two chambers cut with each. PTG reamers with pilot bushings.

Get in touch if interested.

And lots of test fire data obtained with the Oehler M43 system.

The bullet sizing (drawing) die certainly makes sense.
I've a friend who has dies for making bullets for his oversized .303's with 8mm bullets and .330's out of .338's.
They are "3-step" Lee bullet sizing dies.

Is sending dies from the USA to Australia a problem?

I have never had a problem in getting them posted.

Some US businesses can't be bothered to send stuff overseas, simple as that.

Sometimes it is a law making export a little more difficult.

And dies, easily labelled as "machine dies" or "machine parts" anyway.

Some stuff cannot be send from the States - their (Obama era) Export laws, still in effect. Some were changed, some not.

And that's the way to get them over and other stuff as well. Re-posing by a US resident friend. Most products are not a big deal or problem.
