Went out Hunting Yesterday, for "Ruffed" grouse

Here, called Willow Grouse or Ruffed Grouse.
I was only able to collect 1 with the air rifle.
Buddy Len, with his Turkich O/U 28 bore and me with
my Turkish .410 single shot, got another 9 birds.
Len wanted only 3, so I have 7 of them in the fridge soaking
in salt water.
The 26gr. Predator pellet opened his little melon up like a book.
Opps, looks like my goat needs trimming.

I thought goats were allowed to grow during hunting season until you collect your deer.

LOL. It's been a few years now, since I've shot a deer. Didn't see any yesterday, (whitetail bucks) of I'd have smacked one with the M70 '06. I also had that along.
Ruffed Grouse, also known as Willow Grouse are the best eating grouse. That reminds me, soaking in salt water (in the fridge) is over - time to bag and freeze my 7.

What sort of airrifle did you attach to your scope? ! ha ha, it is almost bigger than the 'gun'.

A .410 is cool. I'll have to use my again soon.

Good going. I wish we had grouse here. I closest I have come, not sure it is close (?) was some chukar partridge mixed in with some pheasant.

The scope is an Optisan MTC Viper 6-24X30x56mm IRS Reticle. Nice scope., but slight overkill on the Condor. It worked, though.

Chukar are larger and more open land bird, along with pheasant. I've never eaten chukar, but have eaten quite a few pheasant.

This rifle, Air Force Condor in .25 cal. gives me 1/2" below to 1/2" above, to 1/2" below the line of sight, a 1" kill zone from 20 yards to 52 yards. It is a single shot and is good for 20 or more shots per fill of 3,000psi. I use a Carbon 97 cu in carbon fiber tank of filling it. Instead of compressed air, I use bottled nitrogen I rent from Parxair a local shop here in town. That tank is 200 pounds & holds 4,500psi filled. I use nitrogen in 3 PCP rifles & 2 PCP handguns.

I also have a 4-cavity mould that cases 51gr. flat nose boat tailed bullets, for this rifle. The Ballistic Coefficient for normal DIABOLO (waisted)pellets is right around .034 maximum. The BT is very effective sub-sonic, and raises the BC of these to .100. I was using a 26gr. predator Pellet, which is a HP with a plastic nose like a Vmax bullet. They really expand well. The grouse's head was 1/2 gone, opened up like a book.

Yes - pure lead 93x64. I then set them up on their nose and spray with Lyman's (ran out of MS Moly) bullet spray moly coating.
It isn't supposed to be necessary, but I figure it might give a few fps higher speed & certainly prevent leading.
I started out with a double cavity mould, one flat nose, the other adjustable HP. I sold that one to a friend and I bought the 4-cavity mould. It's a bit faster casting and doesn't overheat
The moulds are Bob Sterne's (BC Canadian) designs at NOE.

They are making other sizes as well. I think the 4-cavity mould was on sale - $94.00 US. Beautiful moulds, too, in aluminum. They are WAY ahead of Lee moulds. Quality and precision.
