I am just getting all the gear now, I would be using if I can get them .358" bullets at 314g but may be hard to get, will check with Woodleigh, What are you using?

I see .358 will not work in mine need .360+ but not .366 dam it, factory Ammo shoots great but all solid 314gr & collectable I’m sure !

Do you reckon it was made to handle Buffalo or bigger ?
314gr solids makes me think so but it is a lesser round than the 9.3X74 & that is marginal !

Bertram .400/.360 WR brass @ Grafs https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/category/categoryId/827?
....or “they” say 9.3x74 can be resized to work.

Hawk bullets can work with you to make .360” 300 grain http://hawkbullets.com
Probably best slug the bore?
Groove diameter bigger than .360 but less than .366 you can get Corbin to make you a "Bullet Reduction Die" that can squeeze a .366 bullet down as much as .006"

Dies? I suppose get in line at CH4D or order from the guys in Oz as they can ship dies to the USA.

Original ballistics were 1900'/sec out of a 28" barrel.
While I do not doubt some brave/stupid nimrods plinked Buffalo with it, IMO the main use would have been larger plains game.

"They" are correct about making the cases from 9.3x74R. I do.

If your bore is a little less than .366, try the .358's with a 1/8" cork gasket material wad under the bullet (use a 3/8" wad punch so it's a tight fit in the neck).

I have a 400/360 with a .372 groove diameter, and it shoots the PRVI 285 .366's wonderfully with the cork wad.

Mike, The 9.3x74R doesn't make a very good case for the Westley Richards version of the .400/360, because the Westley Richards version has a much thicker rim. The little shoulder on this cartridge really isn't enough to provide headspace.

I once had a Mod. 1897 WR single shot chambered in this caliber. Cases made from 9.3x74R were unsatisfactory.

On the other hand, a rifle chambered for the Purdey version of the .400/360 will do fine with cases made from 9.3x74R. The rim thickness is the same.

I have a Greener double rifle chambered for the .400/360 NE, and this is where I get my brass.

I did find necessary the use of a neck reamer. Shoving the shoulder back to the proper position leaves a thick area of neck where the former 9.3x74R shoulder was.

Once formed and reamed, no problems at all.

I remember a copy of a page out of a Westley Richards catalogue saying "...ideal rifle for Deer, Boar, Kangaroo and Seal..." so definitely not a dangerous game rifle

Roscoe, I stand corrected on the rims - I had forgot about that. It's easy to do that with a Fraser......hehe.
