Take a look at this future trophy! At least I believe it to be a buck fawn.

Now how often does one get this close to wild game?

Ann

How can you kill Bambi! You brute. Even if you do wait five or six years for him to grow up.

What a lovely "backyard" you have to have deer wandering through. Also what a lovely coat these whitetail fawns have. They always remind me of a summer menil fallow coat.

The sad thing is this deer will most likely only be 1.5 years old when it is killed by a hunter. He will most likely be sporting only a "spike" rack. We have lots of deer, most females (does) have twin fawns and many having triplets.

Unfortunately the average hunter cannot pass up an immature deer. The average "Joe" loves to go to work Monday morning to brag to the guys he got his buck and sports photos of his spiker. How embarassing! My state does not encourage or manage for healthy deer populations. The buck to doe ratio is probably 1 buck to 25 does. This is unnatural as the ratio should be 1:2 with bucks having to fight for the privelge.

The "herd" is never mature, the bucks being the smaller ones that do the breeding because everything is shot out and not left to mature. No, this deer will never see 5 years of age.

My camera is a digital. It's a Nikon Coolpix 4500.

Excellent photos! They look so real and are so sharp that they are almost 3D.

Ann- WAY COOL! As I write this, a doe is at the edge of my yard nursing her single fawn, while she nibbles on some Mulberry leaves. She keeps the fawn hidden under some Multi Flora Rose.
