I don't think the bottom metal on that H&H is original and it looks to have been broken through the wrist.
I guess the ad sort of says that.

yes, the magazine is aluminium and the little break on the pistol grip is described as being "repaired by an expert"

In the 50's and 60's H&H made special mention of their use of aluminum for the bottom metal. It was considered pretty modern at the time.

The 1950s – 60s were hard times for the British guntrade. I have seen several Holland & Holland bolt action rifles rifles from those times. They were made either on opened up ex-military German 98k or P13 Enfield actions. All had such light alloy undermetal and ventilated buttpads. Except the inscriptions and the iconic barrel shape, workmanship was so-so only at best. The checkerig was cut lopsided, and the oil finish was certainly not up to H&H prewar standards.

This one doesn't look like any commercial sporter I have ever seen. First of all, it has a small ring action, which otherwise only Kurz commercial rifles had. Secondly, it has no "Mauser Werke AG" manufacturer's legend on the left side of the receiver. Thirdly, the bolt handle knob does not resemble the commercial pear shaped knob. Finally, there are no proof marks visible on the receiver.

I suspect that someone mated an original Mauser take-off barrel with a military action and numbered the receiver to match the serial number on the barrel.

IMO price is quite low. If I understand correct, 7 mm Express is same as .280 Remington ?

Could be but I just read from Speeds book that (at least) Jeffery made some rifles in caliber .280/333. Even this old and rare british caliber is one alternative: http://www.cartridgecollector.net/7mm-eley-experimental-7x63-mm

Here's a nice old Fraser built Mousie takedown in .275 Rigby. Waidmannsheil asked me to post the photos for all: Mouse

Description from auction listing:

Fraser Mauser 98 in 275 Rigby Caliber. Absolutely Fantastic Example of Fraser's Unique Style.
Rifle is in near new condition. At some point in its history the rifle was re-barreled by Boss when they were in their Albemarle St address. Matching numbered Fraser scope if fitted with the usual triple horizontal range finding reticle. Optics are still in very good usable condition. Scope fit is tight as new. Fraser Magazine rifles are super scarce, especially so on a 98 Mauser action and especially so in 275 Rigby. This rifle is simply a pleasure to behold, as it would also to use!

Maker Fraser, Edinburgh
Gauge/Caliber 275 Rigby HV. Sighted for the 140 gr. Bullet
Barrels 25"
Chokes n/a
Engraving Scottish Fine Scroll
Action 98 Mausr
Stock Full Figured French
Butt Checkered Horn
L.O.P. 14 1/2"
Weight 7 lbs. 5.9 oz W/O Scope. 8 lbs 6.7oz. W. Scope
Stock Dimensions Perfect
Price SOLD
