WTB: sizing die for 50-110 Winchester
      #329811 - 05/07/19 04:33 AM

I have an original Winchester 1886 in 50-110 Express and I need a sizing die to reload the Starline
brass. Will be using lead bullets from my .500 BPE guns.
Thanks in advance, from Hawaii.

OahuKaneohe
try Simplex reloading here in Oz, they may have full length & seating dies - unfortunately their web site is under maintenance so it won't show the list of cartridges they have dies for - including the ones not normally shown
I have their e-mail address somewhere - PM me if you need to

If you're after projectile sizers - try CBE here as well, I'm sure Dave will have something there.

Would love to see one of these old girls in the flesh so to speak...yours must be very rare now!

OahuKaneohe,

I have an extra set of RCBS 50-140 dies. Whether you could use them to load the shorter cartridge, I don't know. The 50-140 case is 3-1/4".

If you are interested I'll dig them out of the closet and give more information.

Thank you Curl for your offer, I don't think those will size the 2.4" case of the 1886.

I just saw Patrick the first week of June. He is doing well. I'm sorry to say he now seems more interested in fencing than rifles.

I don't think the length of the sizer would be a problem. There's almost no taper over that part of the front of the case. I was thinking you more likely would have trouble with the expander die and the seater. Even so, as for those dies it would be a simple matter to shorten the die bodies at the bottom, a simple task for any machinist.

It's my understanding the 50-110 and the 50-140 are based on the same case, just different length.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have on hand 50-90, 50-70 Sharps, and .500 BPE 3" and 3 1/4".

I contacted RCBS, will not make a set. CH4D not in stock and 1 year wait time. I am waiting for
replies from Redding and Lee.

I have found a custom die make that only needs 1 fired case and 14 weeks delivery time, so this is
my last resort.

I sent CH4D 3 fired cases for a .375 wildcat and they sent me a set of dies too small to be of use.

I sent the dies back with 3 more fired cases, explaining their error - they returned the dies unaltered. Both times they kept the formed cases, thus all 6.

I then purchased a set of .376 Styer dies from Hornady and use them for neck sizing and seating - problem solved. I use an expander button I made for necking the cases straight to start with - single pass on .0/06 or .35 Whelen brass, no need to neck up in in steps.

When you get your dies try this load.
110 grains of Goex cartridge compressed
300 grain lino type bullet from a NEI gas check mould.
This load shoots really well from my rifle. Serial number 100x manufactured November 1886.
good luck with it

OK, thanks to all. Lee Precision has my fired cases and will make a two die set. I have a neck expander from Buffalo to load lead bullets.
