Mannlicher Schoenauer 1903 Takedown
      #327925 - 01/05/19 04:03 AM

I found this 1903 TD on a game fair this weekend.
It has been rebarreled to 6.5x55 SE, and has british proof marks. The last owner bought it at an auction in England.
Stock lengthened and mounted with a red Pachmayr Deccelerator recoilpad.
Nickel Marburg 4x36 scope with German No 1 reticle.

Cant wait to get it home. A Takedown Mannlicher has been a dream for some years, and finally, the dream came trough :-)

Nice Maral -
just thinking that a total refinish of the stock might better hide the stock lengthening in that it should be all the same colour.

Maral - you certainly have a wonderful piece there!
I've always liked rifles in non-standard, rare or unusual calibres - this one certainly fits that bill nicely!
The 6.5x55 is a great round so you will have plenty of downrange punch.
It has certainly been kept rather well (to say the least)for it's age so lets hope the barrel is in similar condition.
That ringed mark on your Nickle scope, was the scope non original; I might be completely wrong here, but was the scope originally turned to match the mounts?
Regardless you have picked up a fantastic old rifle, one that can certainly be easily handed down to children or grandchildren!
Please don't forget to add in your loads when you get your new mistress home!
Well done

Hard to tell, but might be epoxy from a previous mounting? Some rings have those grooves, that would have transferred if glued, but there is no middle jointing mark which should be there is that is the case. ??

What's the LOP now? Must have added 3.5" to it.

That's a beautiful 'prewar' M1903 in the original Steyr factory takedown version.

I see two things that don't seem to belong there, however. The side safety is of a later model / type (M1900, '03, '05, '08, '10, '24 had wing safety only), and I've never seen a Steyr built MS takedown with that additional knurled screw that threads into your receiver from the underside.

Was that 'bottom screw' added when it was rebarreled? My M1910 takedown (proofed 1922) has the 'lug' threaded, but the stock is solid beneath as are all others I've seen. The 'Osterr. Waffenfabr: Ges. Steyr' stamping indicates that yours was manufactured no later than 1926. When was it proofed?

'New shotgun type side slide safety' (say that three times fast?) on a 1952 model (from 1954 Stoeger catalog):

Fullstocks are held together thus;

Steyr 'factory takedowns' relied on the groove at the tang, the forend pin, and the lever catch fore of the triggerguard.

MS parts, from the '39 Stoeger:

The full page. No side safety, no 'big screw':

The stock modification is unfortunate. You've lost this:
