Mannlicher M1895 action build
      #327734 - 26/04/19 08:30 AM

I am the recipient of the above action it is in 98% no pits or damage so I am going to restore it back to working condition. It is marked Hembrug 1918.
I need a barrel 6.5 X53R and a stock plus any other hardware. This is a new endeavor for me as I have always read about the guns but never had a chance to get my hands on one..Any help would be appreciated The reason for the 6.5 is that was the original caliber before someone stripped it.
I am looking for a barrel and a stock, I would like to build a sporter with full lenght stock but would settle for a standard lenght

The 6.5x53R is a great round and very effective with the 160gn RNSN, enjoy your build.

Daryl, I think you will find that you can get a fair bit more out of them with a 26 inch barrel which is the norm for 256 Mannlicher. 25 and 28 were also commo9n but mostly 26 inch. You need the long barrel so that the rifle balances with you hand just forward of the magazine, which they do really nicely. Also helps with a long sight radius as most of that model are open sights. You can fit optics but it is more difficult than a MS as you must load the magazine with a clip of five rounds meaning the scope must be easily movable or off to the side which is a bit crap.

Matt.

What are the chances of finding a take off barrel for the Mannlicher that would be usable.

Since everybody has been waiting for the next installment here goes. I now have a stock while I am not too impressed with the wood at least I now have a pattern for duplication I received the barrel today. Ready to fit the barrel and waiting for a reamer to be made. Barrel is a 26 inch CM 1-8 with a #2 contour which comes very close to the original pattern.
