My Uberti m76 in 50/95 top rifle. Taylor's m76 in .46/60, restocked on the bottom.
1st day at the range, I used 75gr. 2F GOEX and a 420gr. FN.(shortened Lyman #515141) and made 2-5-shot groups. Best was almost square 2.4" x 2.65". The second groups not as good, but was long and thin on a diagonal - 1.5" x 3.25". The range was 100 meters.

I now shoot a Lyman #515239 in 368gr. with 52.0gr. N44 for 1,650fps as well as 85gr. Swiss 1 1/2F for 1,580fps. I expect to get on the 1000 meter buffalo with this rifle, this summer. I have a Smith Ladder sight on it now.

I also was thinking of a Spencer Carbine now that brass is available.

Me shooting Taylor's .45/60 after he firelapped it.

Beautful guns Darryl, I always liked the extra large look of the 1876, they are elegant. I recall one of the modern repro lever actions being run up to almost 458 win energies. Not sure if it was something chambered in 45-60 or 45-90 or something...

to find out where the lighthouse is ... very easy in the internet age (but in the land of the blind)

I have a date now: 28.4.
with my riddle you can guess what it is but they are not ready now http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=324441&an=0&page=0#Post324441

Love to have had a .20/577 doublerifle. However the trouble with finding good cases and the troubles with some bottleneck cartridges like the .577/500 magnum prevents me from ever getting one.

Still thinking about a set of paradox barrels for my Rigby. I think a set of barrels for the .577 nitro-for-black will make a 12bore too cumbersome.

You have me intrigued rigbymauser, what 'troubles' do you have with cases like the 577/500 in a double?

Getting good cases. I have reached to a point where I consider getting a .500 BPE with straightwalls. Here I can get good hq cases. The few Bertram I have will that works will go along with the gun the day I decide to sell.

Vintage Rigby rising bite in 500NE.

Dakota Arms Traveler with 416 Rigby and 338 Lapua barrels.

Wish lists are never ending.

I would like a .577 NE double at the bigger end.

But also an 8-bore vintage double as well.

But mostly a lovely modern sleek double in .375 Flanged. Equipped with a scope. And hopefully becoming about the only rifle I would choose for most medium game and a lot of bigger game hunting. That is when the .450 NE isn't picked up in preference.

Time to start culling what's in the safe not adding to it. Its full to bursting.

I really need a fine pair of side by side 12 gauge shotguns though.

The thread title basically restricts this thread to old people.

Being that I am still in my 20s here is the list of what I will get my hands on in the future

Bigger: 577 or 500NE Westley Gold name Droplock.

Big: Joseph lang 470

Medium: Jeffery 400 or 375 flanged in an english boxlock

Smallish MEdium: 333 Jeffery Flanged or 300 H&H flanged. Or anything from Dan'l Frasier!

Gentlemen,

my information from the customer service of Heym was:

- the Express rifle in 600 NE is no longer offered
- a modification from an old (ca. 1990 model) in 460 Weatherby to 600 NE was not possible
- I think the only possibility is the custom order line which results in a price tag like the 505 Gibbs for around 19k €

best regards
Rolf

....and yes, I would like also to see some photos of Lancaster´s 600 NE Heym :-)

The big secret is time travel apparently. The rules weren't in place 10 years ago when I used regional description in my profile. We covered this twice now.

Quote:

... and not continuing to act like a complete ....

As to acting like a 'Complete No.1' - adding angry capitalised remarks to a members profile, over a comment put there 10-15 years ago, how would you describe that? You did this before you even mentioned the new policy changes here btw. You threw a tantrum in effect.

A polite PM yourself or a short comment without all that nonsense would have gotten the message across a little better.

I am guessing some of the debates we had as younger men have really taken a toll. I returned here to add some content, you obviously aren't getting the traffic you used to and I wanted an Aussie site to launchpad some shooter magazine articles I am doing on some guns I found abroad, mostly belonging to the old ele hunters.

I'll take my bongos to accurate reloading where everyone is welcome. Well almost everyone.

"Loc: South Pacific"

And as for the breach of terms and conditions the troll Karl refers to, it is a requirement to display a proper location. I asked the troll Karl to put a correct location in. He refused. Twice I correct it, by adding troll Karl's location in. Three times now the smart arse has changed it to something else, he thinks was funny ... troublemaker.

We have the IP addresses of each post and his have been consistently Victoria, as they were 15 years ago.

As for the "interesting guns" he mentions, interesting he never mentioned any of these since he "returned". No doubt he will poach some images from somewhere to BS about elsewhere.

Gone. Banned. Fifteen years ago was a "friend of a troll". A month ago I mentioned the name of that troll and "Karl" appears ...

We don't have many rules and it is pretty much easy going here in a constructive and gentlemanly manner. We don't tolerate trolls and purposeful troublemakers one bit however.

A genuine Rigby in 350Rigby. Knew a bloke who had one and told him I wanted first refusal but said I could only go to $7000. It was well worn and had a lot of history. I knew I wouldn't get it for that price. The arsehole and he is a dead set arsehole (Not joking about this mongrel) sold it for $3000.

Quite a few others like an L1A1 SLR

Wtf? Why would someone be so dumb?

Lancaster: what did you end up getting?

I’d love way too many guns to list, so I’ll put “Westley Richards 425 with 28” barrel, 5 shot mag and no drill and tap holes!”.

For me its easy: a .450 NE with 26-inch barrels and ejectors on a down-scaled (i.e .450/400-size)screw-grip Webley action. The whole package to weigh in at 10 lbs on the dot.

Since I have never seen such a beast I had to be content with a new Heym 89B in .450 NE. I asked nicely that it not be made on the larger .470/500-size) action.

It is finished and should be in my grubby paws as soon as the importer and local Heym agent does his thing.

Big: Joseph Lang 470

My brother has a Joseph Lang, but it is a single shot, built in 1853.. in 99% condition.

16 bore

That day at the range, we tested only one load, .022" patch and a .648" round ball. The patches were just a little thin, but the 85gr. 2F GOEX charge did not burn them.
The muzzle is a little sharp cornered and mildly cut the patches on most every land, but sealed well enough to only scorch the patches in the groove locations.
At 50 yards, we both cut a single hole for 5 shots.
At 100 meters, the 5-shot group Taylor printed, was approximately, iirc, 1.650" x 1.624".

I shot my 14 bore against him. He got to buy lunch. My extreme spread was just a tiny bit better than his, however, mine were centered on the bullseye and had 4 in just over 1", with one flyer caused by me.

So - maybe I already have my "big Bore".

This is cheating a bit, since it actually falls into the category of medium bores I once owned but wish I had never let go.

Both are in caliber .400/.350 Rigby. One is a Westley Richards Ovundo drop lock double rifle and the other is a Rigby based on the Oberndorf slant box magnum Mauser action. I let them go in the early 1970's, since there was no source for the 300 grain bullets which John Taylor praised so highly in his book.

25-30 years ago I came across a Gibbs .500 3" BPE double rifle with Jones underlever, hammers and beautiful damascus barrels with clean bores for the then princely sum of $4000.
This was in Maquoketa Iowa of all places.
Never saw it again except in my dreams.
