11x60 Schuler info needed.
      #324850 - 19/02/19 05:11 AM

Gentlemen,

One of my projects this year is to get my 11x60 Schuler stuzens up and running. That includes mounts made for the claw bases and ammo loaded, then use it on a trophy deer. I think its amazing to get a rare German rifle and get it up and running for a massive buck for one of our large bucks on our properties.

If you can pass along any loading data, I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Fingers crossed for you GD!
Will certainly be a project to get off the ground, hopefully Kadaue or Lancaster will have some info for you!

There is no "11x60 Schuler" cartridge, though rifles by the A. Schüler/Schueler (German Umlaut), Suhl, company made rifles for several cartridges in that range over the years, like 11.15x60R M71 or 11.15x60R LK. But as you describe your rifle as a Stutzen (or do you have two?), I assume you are looking for data for the 11.2x60, DWM case number 41A, a Schüler development indeed. This was a rebated rim version of the 11.15x60R M71 Mauser aka .43 Mauser, loaded with smokeless powder and jacketed bullets to about .30-30 pressures. The rim was rebated to fit an unaltered standard 8x57/.30-06 size bolt head. Richard Schüler introduced the cartridge about 1905 for use against dangerous game in the then African colonies. For this use it was soon replaced, from 1907 on, by Schueler's much more powerfull 11.2x 72. As most 11.2x60 rifles were exported, they are extremely rare now. I don't know about any modern load data for this number.
But I found original 1930s DWM data: The 11.2x60 used a 21.5 g = 332 gr jacketed bullet in front of 4g = 61.7gr of the obsolete R5 powder for a muzzle velocity of 680 m/s = 2230 fps. But note, this velocity was from a 72 cm = 28.3" test barrel. So you should expect markedly less fps from a shorter Stutzen barrel, about 2000 fps. The old R5 = Rottweil No.5 was apparently slightly faster than 4064. In several of such old , odd cartridges I replaced it, grain for grain, successfully with VV N140 as a starting load. In a 10.75x45R Gründig double rifle this recipe even regulated at the first try.
Cases can be fabricated from .458 Win Mag or other such belted cases: remove the belt on a lathe, turn rebated rim to .470 - .475", cut new extractor groove. Form cases in a 11.15x60R aka .43Mauser fl die. trim to 60 mm = 2.36". The biggest problem will be: finding suitable .440" bullets in the 300 – 350 gr range. Perhaps you can swage down soft jacketed .458" bullets?

GD,
now might be a great time to get a cast done of the chamber & slug you bore!
As Kuduae has put it, you may own a very rare bird indeed & to have your rifle's dimensions proven it will be a great help for him & others to verify what you really need!
And yes it will be a rare treat for all us to see your rifle speak once again.

Woodleigh bullets do make a .440" projectile of 401gn in weight - Part No 67.

Bertram brass certainly do make more than a few odd sized cases, including the 11.2x72 Schuler - again your chamber cast will verify what you can then use or what to modify to get you going.

The link below is an American contact point - worth a try I guess after you work out your chamber.

Keep at it mate, we're all behind you on this.
