.730 Paradox bore question...
      #320881 - 23/10/18 12:26 AM

Gentlemen,

I have a paradox that measures .730 at the chokes, I was curious if the H&H factory ammo with its .735 diameter could be used as its only .005s and lead so it is softer then steel. I do not want to damage the gun so I thought I would ask you all before I did it!

It would make my life easier if I could use the H&H ammo and it regulated well!

Time to start asking a bunch of questions about the rifle. Typically Paradox guns have about .045" of constriction at the chokes with most H&H built guns having a bore diameter of .735" and chokes in the .690" range. I would measure the bore and constriction carefully before proceeding. The H&H cartridges are for the mildest loading at only 1050 fps. I believe from speaking to you in the past about this gun that it is set up for the 1250 fps load. This is a long winded way of saying I am pretty sure you will need to work up loads for that gun. Once you know bore diameter and constriction you can start looking for a mold, or have one made. Getting them to shoot is half the fun. Good luck!
Steve

At .025" smaller each side, I can only assume it will be a leading monster in .730" bores.

.045" per side is a LOT of constriction for sure.

I had previously thought maybe .020" which is a lot.

45 points of choke - WOW!

That would be .0025" per side, yep lots of leading.

The bullet should be sized .001" under bore diameter.

Not .045" per side but .045" of total constriction.

The design requires the proper hardness of the projectile and the deep bite of the ratchet style rifling in order the grab and spin the projectile.

Quite a bit has been written about loading for the 1050 and the 1250 fps loading. I once owned a 1550 fps Super Magnum Paradox gun....that was beast to manage the recoil in an 8&1/4lb gun.

.0225 per side, yes, with .045 total constriction, ie: 45 points (thousandths) of total choke.
Would the 1,550 Super Magnum be a 3" case?

2&3/4" case on the Super Magnum. It was built for the Maharajah of Khota.
