Westley Richards Cape Gun Sights
      #320317 - 03/10/18 09:02 AM

In one of those happy accidents a WR Cape Gun came into my hands in pretty good shape, aside from a Chaplin with a bead blaster hitting the barrel (there are all sorts of derogatory terms for 'that guy' but I just see them as the kid throwing rocks in the Charlie Chaplin movie). That said, the sights are a makeshift cobble. Does anybody in the hive have any closeups of originals or better yet, some originals for sale?

The rifle is 12 by 450 #2 Musket. Bores are bright.

Would like to see photos of this one Dogfish!
Lancaster might be able to find something in his 'Combination gun' archive?

sry no. You might be able to use the very bottom 1/2" of a .30/06 or SB .308 die for neck sizing. This is rather precarious but can work, after a fashion.
I've done this with wildcats just to make up shoot-able rounds for fireforming to send out to have dies made.
A .460 WTBY sizer (shortened) might work for neck sizing this very slightly bottle-necked case.

Was just thinking a .450 Alaskan set of dies might work, but the British case is likely of very thin neck and perhaps CH4D dies might not have a tight enough neck to work. I have had difficulty getting them to make dies fitting the cases I send, IF they do not match their 'standard' idea of that wildcat.

You should not need a die set
Bertrand do the brass
Providing you use the brass for the same rifle (which you will) the cases should not need resizing
Decap with a fine punch or grind down a hard nail
Recap (CAREFULLY!) with a hammer GENTLY
If using BP have milk carton wads with lube cookie in between (beeswax/crisco) on top of powder
If using Nitro for black use filler, small volumes of powder in large cases can be dangerous
Bell case mouths very slightly with taper punch check it will still chamber
use a vice to carefully fit bullet (ensure the bullet does not cant sideways
check overall length
There is a very good sticky on British Militaria Forums on loading the No.2 Musket
It is what the .577/450 should have been, very good to reload
If I can find time (too much work!!) I will repost pics of my WR Cape rifle with good pics of the sights in .577/450 and 12 G
If you trace my posts you can find it but I cannot work out how to make a connection

Good luck

I believe CH-4D has the dies and Rusty Woods Trading in Mission BC has 50/90 Sharps brass for CDN $126 per 50 .

x Ring is a great connection. If any Canadians need brass for 450 #2, 450/577, 43 Mauser and the like I'll likely be placing an order pretty quick. Basically $56 USD per 20 brass.
