G'Day Fella's,

Thanks for sharing Lancaster, and something we all need to be aware of, and remember.

Stupid mistake. I can't understand how a sober person could load and chamber the wrong cartridge for a rifle ...

The only rifles I have where I think this could happen, and as a result I am EXTREMELY careful with them when assembling these rifles, are my multi barrel, multi magazine, multi bolt head Mauser M03's. Where theoretically I could use the wrong bolt head for the wrong barrel etc.

I know I have had eg a .435 P-H cartridge mixed with .375 H&H Magnum cartridges, and identified it and removed it from the lot. No idea if it would chamber in a .375.

A bit of care works, and sensible practices. Fingers crossed, just in case.

SO...different story but somewhat related... I was having one of my rifles checked out by a local gunsmith..he told me to bring some reloading components along as he wanted to relaod some himself..he called me a few days later telling me I brought the wrong bullets..the rifle I brought him was a .30 caliber...brand new box of bullets from the manufacturer showing .308 on the outside..plastic still on the box clearly showing it had never been opened...bullets inside were actually 8mm...

WTF??? He called the manufacturer who stated this has never happened ever before..which is good..but not good from the standpoint of it did happen once..

Lancaster, thanks for posting. I have read of people firing a 308 in a 270 and similar as well as smaller rounds in a larger calibre like a 243 in a 308.

When humans are involved then anything can happen.
