Good article, Ripp - many of the lads call the cracking, fire-cracking.

It is easily seen with a bore scope.

Thanks for posting that link Ripp.

In my experience, all centrefire cartridges, have the potential to be a barrel burner.
There's a hint in the "Burner" part of that description.
The most detrimental thing you can do to a barrel, is to allow it to get hot.
In some situation, that goes with the job at hand but when you can avoid it (like load development, sighting in, etc), its best to do this.
I like to work up my pressure loads in firearms in the Summer heat, and I can wait 5 minutes between individual shots, just to let the barrel cool down.
