My 28 Gauge Rifle
      #315075 - 08/04/18 11:17 AM

In my never ending quest to have oddball rolling blocks made, I present my new 28 gauge rifle! This started its life as an M67 Swedish military rifle. Out of service it was bored out to a 28 gauge shotgun. Later still, someone added sporter stocks. I bought it online and had it shipped to a gunsmith and had barrel bobbed and bore rifled to 1:66. He added a tall front sight to file as needed. Rear sight just a fixed V notch.
When I got it, I discovered that 28 gauge shells dropped completely into chamber. Hmmmm? Chamber cast shows 24 gauge, but brass shells do not fit. Managed to find some Cheddite 24 ga hulls that fit if shortened about 1/4". So now I have a neat 28 ga rifle. The Roller Chow, as I call my cartridges are loaded with 60 gr by volume of FFFG GOEX, nitro card, 3/8" fiber wad, dollop of Bore Butter and a patched .562 round ball. Cannot wait to shoot it. I also added some new screws and receiver pins. With Photobucket on my Naughty List, here is a FB link with photos.

Sounds like a cool rifle.

I would be trying upwards of 3 drams to 4 drams - to 82gr. to 110gr. with the round balls for elk, etc.

The hogs and deer should be nicely handled by the lighter charge/s.

Only deer and maybe black bear where I will be hunting. Thank God no signs of major hog intrusions yet! After I have tested the gun some, I may up the charge.

Incidentally, this gun is For Sale on Gunbroker now. Reserve not met, so it could be yours! (I have a new project, now that I have had fun with this one).
