Original Take down Sporting Oberndorf Mauser rifle...?
      #316184 - 07/05/18 12:23 PM

Hello!

A friend of mine was offered an "original" Oberndorf Sporting Mauser rifle in 9,3x62...He sent to me some pictures but no one of the left side of the action. We are waiting for these pictures, to take a look at the markings and so. Until then I post the pictures we have now.
On the barrel: Specially Made for Chas. A. Heyer & Co. Nairobi.
The bolt handle has been altered, of course.
It has a short cocking piece, like a standard military M98. Seems strange...
I don't have Jon Speed book. I am waiting for my copy...So, do somebody knows if Mauser offered this take down as an option ?
kuduae...? DORLEAC..?

Thank you very much!

PH

Looks very much like british Jeffery used to build. Speedīs book says that Mauser factory didnīt offer similar way build take down -rifles.

Thank you Igorrock,

We are waiting (tomorrow) the pictures with all the markings.
But seems very unlikely, taking in account Jon Speed book information, to be an Original Oberndorf Sporting Mauser Rifle. They didn't do T.Down rifles.
Anyway, it appears to have an original action and barrel.
Will see...

Well, I have the pictures....I is a 9,3x62 Mauser made with a 1909 DWM action. Where..? No information about this. The strange thing is the barrel: it seems to be an original Oberndorf Sporting Mauser one. Seems.....The take down modification is also open to debate.
The rifle is nice, well done and, by its present owner, it is a good shooter.
Anyway, my friend question, and mine, is answered by the following pictures.
Thank you all!

Looks like a very nice rifle.
The takedown is very much in the Jeffery style.

The take down feature appears to have been added after the stock was finished.
Note the points of the forend checkering are cropped at the mating plates.

Some sort of hybrid rifle.
Barrel indeed a Type A Oberndorf.
Action + bottom metal Argentine 1909. Stippling of the front receiver ring as a look alike found on some Oberndorf sporters in those days.
