Sad to hear that you can't get your old 'rook' going - hopefully you'll find another example in the future!

Such a shame - a beautiful little rifle!

Well I finally got round to going up to the gunsmith to pick up some other bits and pieces. He didn’t admit defeat and the action has now been repaired and you cannot even tell it was cracked. The crack was on the front of the action. When it was converted to 410 the action gape was widened and extra pressure was being put on this bit. It’s not structural so I think this project is back on. Now 22 Hornet or .222?

And for the scope mounts do I use simple Parker hale style v blocks or go for some sort of claw. The German claws I think would be wrong, the Holland type a maybe but most I have seen are simple v blocks. I have a straight tuned Nickel Marburg 1-4x20 which will fit nicely.

Good news,

With my own rook, I handload 35Gr Hornady or Nosler projectiles with AR2207.

You can’t physically stuff enough enough powder into the case to get more than about 36000psi and I’m going with about 10.5gr in Nosler cases, which seem to have smaller capacity than Winchester or Sako.

If the period scope would hold zero, it would be brilliant.

I look forward to your results!

I assume you are referring to 22 Hornet?
