Lee Speed patents

Can anybody give me a definitive answer as to when the Lee Speed patents expired and no longer had to be marked on the gun?

My notes say 1914, but I am hoping that somebody has some documented confirmation.

Hi,

I can't help with a definitive answer I'm afraid. Although I strongly suspect it was somewhat earlier than 1914. No evidence to prove this, just based on observations.

I do have a documented 1904 rifle that doe's NOT have the patent markings.

Look forward to further comments.

Cheerio,

Roy

This is the Reader's Digest version.

Lee Speed Patent markings used right up to WWI.

No production of commercial arms during the war.

When production started up again after the war, the patents had expired and no longer marked.
