Kimber Caprivi?

Anyone has this rifle? What do you think of it? It's more than twice the price of the Winchester 70 Safari Express, but I do not mind if it's that much better in terms of smoothness and fit and finish.

Appreciate any opinions

My buddy I travel around the world with hunting has one in .375H&H..its one of his favorite rifles..accurate, nice handling, etc..I have shot it many times, nice rifle..

I have heard in the past their was an issue with them cracking behind the tang over a period of time in the .458Lott version..I have never seen it but read about it on-line..

I have a NEW Winchester in .416 Rem... the Kimber is a nicer feeling rifle but not sure its worth double the money??..I am having the stock redone on the Winchester as it feels like a 2x4 holding it.

Great information. If it's not good enough for + double the price, maybe I'd be better off with the 70.

Oh, Don't get me wrong..its a nice rifle..and think it is still a good deal..but your question was "is it worth double the price?" not sure I can answer that for you..

The thing I don't like about the Kimber or Winchester is how thick they are at the fore end.. I have larger hands but still prefer it not as hefty in that area..like the feel of a Dakota that way..more svelte in that area..

My friend bought his used on-line no less... what are they asking for the one you are looking at?? this time of year you should be able to deal and whittle down that price a bit..IMHO..

I would buy new, online as well. I usually compare a few places and try to get shops to match the lowest price. The 70 would be around $1050 and the Kimber would be around $2500 give or take if I do a good job. I never paid full price as well

Hunting Brown Bear??

Shot my brown bear with a .375 in 2001 ..hadn't planned on hunting one but it just happened ..borrowed the rifle and ammo..ammo was a mixed up bunch in a cigar box..still got the job done however..

Many if not most .375's put all bullet weights, from 235gr. to 300gr. into about 2 1/2" at 100 yards. Even my .375/06IMP does this.
A cigar box full of ammo should be good ammo if the gun was properly sighted for one of the weights. I found the 235's strike normally, about 1-1/2" higher than the 270's and 300's, in the top half of the "big" group.

Do not confuse the new Kimber Caprivi with the old Kimber 89 which in my opinion was a much better rifle. I have owned a Winchester mod 70 Safari Express with CRF, (the latest model)in .375 H&H. It is a very smooth action and well designed gun. I find the CZ 550 Magnum with its 5 round magazine a better deal. I have owned 3 of them and they are reliable and tough. They are also heavy which helps tame the recoil. My favorite from the quality point of view is the Browning Safari Hi-Power . I have a .375 and a .458 Win and will never part with them. If you consider one buy a long extractor ( pre '67). They are hard to find and expensive but the very best.
